- This invention'relates to new and useful im-A provements in an automatic "toothbrush box.
, More speciiically, the invention proposes the` construction-.f 'a holder for toothbrushes and tooth pastev tubes vertically, slidably engaged within a container in a novel manner to be moved upwardswithinfsaid container to permit. the
toothbrushes and tooth paste tubes to be removedI therefrom.v I, Y' M'.
Another'object oil this invention is the provisionl of a co'verhingedly-mounted on the open end of the container for closing the same when the holder is in its lowercdposition.
vStill furtherthe invention proposes the pro4 vision of'a link extended between the top end "of said holder andthe bottom face of said cover in a novelfmannerfsoithatsaid cover will be vmoved to an-open position when said holder is raised.
Another' object of this linvention is `the provision 'of'a novel means for permitting the holder to be yraised merely pulling' a string located at vthe side or bottom of the container.
Still further theinvention proposes `the con-v 2li struction of a novel means for-holding the string inA its extended position in 'a particular manner for holding, the holder' in'its raisedpos'ition.
For further comprehension of this invention,
. and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be'had to the'following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are -more particularly set' forth.

container I Il.
"The 'automatic toothbrush box, according to this invention, includes a container I0 constructed of wood or otherr similar material and having a cover II pivotally supported on the upper end thereof for closing the top opening. The.` back -5' wall of the contai'ner III lis formed vwith upwardly extending lugs Il]a and vthe back edge of the cover II is formed with cutouts lllainto which the lugs I0a extend for permitting pins'to `be extended therethrough for pivotallysupporting the 10 The toothbrush box may be, supported on a hook or nail, byl L.engaging the same through a hole IIJb formed in a projection I0 mounted on thetop edge ofithe container I0.
r' A holder I2 .'n the form vof a container for toothbrushes and' tooth paste tubes is vertically slidably mounted within the container I0. This holderis' formed with a plurality of walls I3 extended across the widththereof for dividing the 20 interior of the holder into a number offcompartments I2. 'Thefc'enter compartment I2a is slightly larger than the other compartmentsfor, receivngthe tooth ypaste tube, while each of the other container (compartments have sufiicient 25 vspace for receiving a toothbrush. 'I'he inner face of the cover Il is `divided off to correspond with the number'` oi` compartments in the `holder I2 V and each of the divided oi sections of the cover is provided with an identification Vmark`|4 for 30 properly identifying eachof the compartments A link I5 hasvone of its ends pivotally attached to the bottomace of the cover II and the other of its ends pivotally attached to the upper end of 35v the holder I2 for movingthe cover I4 to an open position when the holder I2 is raised within the This link I5 also serves to 'move the cover I I back to its closed position when the holder I2 moves downwards within the container 40 vA means is provided for lifting :the holder I2 ywithin the container Il] to align the top edge of the holder I2 with the Vtop edge of the container I0 as shown in Fig. 2. This means comprises a 45 string I6 having. one of its ends'attached to the bottom Wall |21` ofthe holder (see Fig. 4) and the,
other of its ends extended through. an elongated slot I1 formed in the front wall of the holder I2 and through an Valigned opening I8 formed in 5o the front wall of the container I0. 'I'he outer y end of the string I6 is formed withA a pull I9 in the form of a flower or other similar object, for permitting the end to be grasped and pulled for raising the holder I2. The slot Il through which the string I 6 passes permits the holder I2 slide upwards when the string is pulled.
The operation of the device is as follows: The toothbrushes and tooth paste tubes are placed within the compartments I2a formed within the holder I2. For raising the holder to permit the toothbrushes and tooth paste tubes to `be removed therefrom, the string I6 is pulled causing the holder I2 to move upwards to a position in which its top edge will be aligned with the top edge of the container I0. This movement of the holder I2 also causes the cover Il to be moved to an open position through the medium of the link I5 extended between the cover and the holder I2.
After the brushes and paste have been removed therefrom and the string I6 is released, the force of gravity will return the holder I2 to its normal position rested upon the bottom wall of the containervl@ which movement automaticallyl causes.
the cover I I to be moved back to position in which it will close the open top end of the container IIJ.
According to the modication shown in Figs. 5*-8 inclusive the construction of the toothbrush box is similar-to that -previously described except for lthe means for lifting Athe holder within the container Il?. This means comprises a string I 6' having one of its ends attached to the bottom Wall I2a of the holder I2. An intermediate portion of the string I 6 extends upwards and engages over a roller 20 rotatively supported upon a shaft ZI. The shaft 2I has its ends extended through elongated slots 22 formed in opposite wallsv of the holder I 2.A .The outer ends of the shaft 2l are engaged into openings 23 formed in the walls of the containerl. The openings `23 are aligned with the slots 22 formed in the holder I2.
The other end of the string' I6 extends through an enlarged opening 24 formed in the bottom wall I2a of the vholder I2 and through an arcuate shaped-slot 25 .formed-in the bottom wall of the ycontainer I0; The end of the string I 6 is formed with a pull I9 in the formof a ball or other similar object. This ball I9 is located at the bottom of the container I 0.-
This form of the invention is `also provided with a means for holding the string I6 in its extended position for preventing the holder I2 from moving downwards until so desired. This means comprises a clip 2S for guiding the string i6 and through which the string passes. This clip 26 is located between the adjacent faces of the bottom walls of the holder I2 and the container IU and is formed at one side with a lever 26a by which the clip is pivotally supported to move in arc parallel with the arcuate shaped slot 25 formed in the bottom wall of the container IIJ.
A clamp 2l is mounted on the bottom wall ofto be engaged therein. One side 2lb of the clampv 2l is slightly cut away to permit the lever 26a of the clip 26 to pass therethrough when the clip 26 is engaged into the clamp 27.
The operation of this form of the device is as follows: c
The string I6 is pull-ed downwards vcausing the intermediate portion thereofto roll over'theroller 20 and extend the holder I 2 within the contain-I er Ill. For holding the holder in its raised position within the container the string lfispulle'dtolj yWards the clamp 2l causing the clip to be engaged therein. yThe clamp 2l' vvill'causethe walls-ofv I6 for maintaining it inits extended position. For releasing the string I6 it is merely necessary *the Clip ze to be tightly clamped aroundfthe string v to pull the same in a V direction away ,from theA clamp 21 to free the clip therefrom to'permit the yforce of gravity to y'return the holder I2 back to i Ventilation holes Il?c and l2c'are` provided at the side of the container YIlland thebottom wall l its normal position. In other respects this -form of the invention is similar to ytheprevious form.l ,A15
