This invention relates to dispensing devices, and particularly to devices for dispensing and forming batter for making cookies, and for dispensing and forming layers of whipped cream andthe like. A further object is to provide means for varying the appearance of the substance after it is formed. A particular object of the invention is to provide such a device as is very efiective and is at the same time inexpensive; the invention consisting partly in the manner of making the device.
Of the accompanying drawing, Fig. 1 is an elevation of a device which embodies some of the features of my invention; Fig. 2 is a top view of the device; Fig. 3 is a bottom View of one modification of the device; Fig. 4 is a sectional fractional view, materially enlarged, along the line 4-4 of Fig. 2; Fig. 5 is a similar view along the line 5-5 of Fig. 1; Fig. 6 is an enlarged sectional view along'the line 6-6 of Fig. 1, and Fig. '7 is a similar view showing a modification; Fig. 8 is a bottom sectional view of a modified form of the device; and Fig. 9 is a bottom view of the modification. The device comprises a cylinder in, in which is mounted a piston ii. The piston is operated in the cylinder by means of a rod l2 to which the piston is fastened in any suitable manner. The rod extends out of the upper end or the cylinder through a closure disk I3, and the rod is operated by means of a button I4 fixed to the outer end In the lower end of the cylinder is mounted a perforated disk 15, and a flange I6 extends from this disk downwardly a distance substantially equal to the thickness of the cookies that are to be formed.
In operation the disk I5 is removed and the cylinder is filled with the batter which is to be operated on; the batter is then forced out through the openings I! by means of the piston while the flange I6 is resting on the table. When a sufficient amount of batter has been forced out, the device is quickly raised leaving the formed batter on the table.
In order to vary the thickness of the cookie that is to be formed I provide the disk [5 with an annular flange l8, so that when this flange extends upwardly, as in Fig. 6 the face of the disk will be materially below the lower end of the cylinder; but when the flange l8 projects downwardly from the disk, that is when the disk is inverted, as in Fig. 7, the face of the disk, and the openings II, will be materially above the lower end of the cylinder. In order that the disk may be inverted I provide the flange I6 independent of the disk and clamped to the cylinder. In this case I clamp the flange and the disk to the cylinder end, by means of a bayonet clamping means l9, the disk being clamped between the cylinder end and the flange l6 by means of an annular flange 28, projecting outwardly from the flange IB. In this manner the disk may be conveniently removed from the cylinder in order to invert it or to fill the cylinder with batter. However, the batter may be inserted in the other end of the cylinder by removing the disk 53 and the piston, if desired.
The disk l3 may also be clamped onto the cylinder end by means of ordinary bayonet clamping means, if desired, and fixed to this disk, or to the cylinder I provide Wings 2|. By the use of these wings the device can be held with one hand as it is being operated, the fingers passing down under the wings and the thumb pressing on the button M. In this way the operator has the use of his Fig. 4 shows the method of clamping the disk l3 onto the cylinder Ill by means of the clamping means 22.
In forming the cylinder l0 it is desirable to have the inner bore circular so as to fit the piston and prevent the batter from passing above the piston. To accomplish this and to form an inexpensive cylinder I provide the flanges 23 on the adjacent edges of the cylinder sheet, after the sheet has been rolled to form a cylinder. These flanges run from one end to the other of the cylinder, and the cylinder edges are held together by means of the strip 24 having flanges 25 passing between the flanges 23 and the body of the cylinder.
My device may be used for dispensing various substances, and also for varying the appearance of the substances when formed. The thickness of the batter may be varied in the manner set forth, or by varying the length of the flange l6; and the appearance otherwise may be varied by varying the openings II, or by varying the amount of batter that is forced out of the cylinder.
The device may be used for dispensing whipped cream or other substances by inserting in place of the disk l5 2. member 26, having at its lower end an opening 21. By this means the cream can be forced out through the opening 21 and spread around in any desired shape. By varying the shape of the opening 21 the appearance of the cream may be varied. To expedite varying the opening in an inexpensive manner, I provide the member 26 with an enlarged opening 28 in which forated disk removably mounted in the lower end of the cylinder, said disk having an annular flange extending angularly therefrom, the outer diameter of the flange being less than the diameter of the bore of the cylinder, and a second annular flange extending outwardly from the outer edge of the former flange, and means for detachably clamping the second flange onto the end of the cylinder with the disk surface above or below the second flange as desired.
