3 Claims. (Cl. 222-80) This invention relates to a spread dispenser which has for its primary object the provision of means for shaving suitable servings from a chilled mass of butter, margarine, cheese, or other spreads that are generally used for bread and the like.

The construction of this invention features the use of a threaded standard which is secured to the base and rotatably carries a housing in which the mass of spread is adapted to be placed. This mass may be either previously chilled and formed into suitable sticks or blocks, or may be placed in the housing in a plastic state and subsequently chilled. Carried by the housing is a cutting blade for shaving the spread as the mass of the spread is lifted by means of a lift plate rotatable with the housing and threaded on the standard.

Still further objects and features of this invention reside in the provision of a spread dispenser that is simple in construction, capable of being formed from various available materials, which is highly sanitary and capable of shaving spreads and the like, in a manner so that the chilled spread is especially adaptable for easy application to bread, crackers, and the like.

These, together with the various ancillary objects and features of the invention which will become apparent as the following description proceeds, are attained by this spread dispenser, a preferred embodiment of which has been illustrated in the accompanying drawings, by way of example only, wherein:

Figure 5 is a perspective view of the invention.

With continuing reference to the accompanying drawings wherein like reference numerals designate similar parts throughout the various views, reference numeral is used to generally designate the spread dispenser comprising the present invention. This spread dispenser includes a threaded standard 12 which has a threaded upper end 14 and a threaded lower end 16 as well as a portion 18 cylindrical in configuration and not threaded.

The threaded end in of the standard 12 is threadedly engaged in a base 24 of any suitable configuration and a washer 22 is positioned on the base 2i) and about the standard 12. Rotatably received on the non-threaded por tion 18 of the standard 12 is a bearing 24 formed of a bushing cemented in the lower portion 26 of a housing 28 which is substantially rectangular in configuration and which is provided with an upper circular flange 30 having a circular central recess 32.

The standard 12 is provided with a transverse aperture 34 therethrough through which a pin 36 extends, the pin 36 serving to lockingly hold the housing 28 on the standard 12 while preventing relative longitudinal movement of the housing 28 and the standard 12 yet permitting the rotation of the housing 28 with respect to the standard 12. The housing v28 is provided with a vent aperture 38 therethrough.

Threadedly received on the standard 12 within the recess of the housing 28 is a lift plate 40 which is substantially square in cross section and which closely fits within the housing 28 conforming to the contours of the inner surface thereof yet which is slidable with respect to the housing 28. Hence, when the housing 28 is rotated, the lift plate 40 will rotate with the housing 28 and will therefore move longitudinally with respect to the housing 28 and the standard 12 due to the advance provided by the threaded portion 14 of the standard 12.

Threadedly secured on the upper end 14 of the standard 12 at the top thereof is a cap 44 forming the center portion of a cutter plate 46. The plate 46 is provided with pairs of arcuate downwardly struck

52 and 54, respectively, in the plate 46. Hence, when the housing 28 is rotated, the mass of spread contained within the housing 28 is likewise rotated and moved up by action of the lift plate it) into engagement with the blades 4-8 and 5d. The

48 and 50 serve to shave the upper surface of the mass of spread, thus delivering and dispensing the spread in a form where it is especially adaptable for spreading, even though in a chilled state, upon crackers, or sliced bread or rolls.

It is to be recognized that this spread dispenser can be utilized for the dispensing of various edibles as may be desired. Further, the

48 and 50 extend into the recessed portion 32 of the flange 30 thus assuring a continuous sweeping action over the entire surface of the mass of spread.

From the foregoing, the construction and operation of the device will be readily understood and further explanation is believed to be unnecessary. However, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the appended claims.

What is claimed as new is as follows:

I. A spread dispenser comprising a base having a threaded standard rising therefrom, a housing having an open upper end rotatably mounted on said standard, a cutter plate secured to said standard closing said open end of said housing and a lift plate threadedly secured to said standard and rotatable with said housing, said housing having a circular recessed flange at the upper end thereof, said cutter plate overlying said flange and having blades downwardly struck therefrom forming openings for dispensing of spread carried by said lift plate.

2. A spread dispenser comprising a base having a threaded standard rising therefrom, a housing having an open upper end rotatably mounted on said standard, a cutter plate secured to said standard closing said open end of said housing and a lift plate threadedly secured to said standard and rotatable with said housing, said housing and said lift plate being square in cross section, said housing having a circular recessed flange at the ripper end thereof, said cutter plate overlying said flange and having blades downwardly struck therefrom forming openings for dispensing of spread carried by said lift plate.

A spread dispenser comprising a base having a standard rising therefrom, said standard having threaded portions and a non-threaded portion, a housing having an open upper end, a bushing fixed to said housing engaged about the non-threaded portion of said standard rotatabiy mounting said housing on said standard, means for preventing movement of said housing along the axis of said standard, a cutter plate secured to said standard closing said open end of said housing and a lift plate threadedly secured to said standard and rotatable with said housing, said housing and said lift plate being square in crosssection, said housing having a circular recessed flange at the upper end thereof, said cutter plate overlying said flange and having blades downwardly struck therefrom forming openings for dispensing of spread carried by said lift plate.
