Patented Feb. 4, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT JOFFICE 1 Claim.

This invention relates to condiment holders, and its main object is to provide a holder or shaker that is primarily designed for salt, in that the salt can be forced therefrom even when in a damp condition, by air pressure created merely by squeezing the shaker, as the latter is made from elastic non-porous material and shaped to be conveniently held and pressed to remove the salt therefrom.

A further object of the invention is to provide a condiment holder in the form of a shaker, from which the contents can be dispensed regardless of the condition thereof, and the shaker is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture and extremely eflicient in use and service.

This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.

In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:

Figure l is a vertical sectional view taken through the shaker which forms the subject matter of the present invention.

Figure 2 is a side elevation thereof.

Figure 3 is a top plan view.

Figure 4 is a view partly in section showing my shaker in use.

Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference numeral I indicates the body of my shaker or holder and which as shown is outwardly bulged in substantially oval or bulbular formation and includes a flat base 2, as well as a restricted upper portion 3 that merges into a thickened neck 4 in rounded formation to provide an annular concaved finger receiving portion at the juncture of the portion 3 with the neck, as clearly shown in Figures 1 and 4.

In the form as shown, the neck is provided with an interiorly arranged annular groove 5 for the purpose of receiving the flange 6 of a cap 1 whereby the cap is detachably associated with respect to the neck, due to the fact that the neck as well as the body and the base thereof, are formed from elastic material of nonporous qualities such as rubber.

The cap 1 is substantially dome-shape and provided with a plurality of openings 8 for the passage of the contents of the body.

The cap is preferably formed from hard rubber or the like. and it will be understood that the cap and the neck can be screw threaded whereby the cap can be threadedly secured to the neck, orany other means may be employed for detachably securing the cap, as will be apparent. 5

From the above description and disclosure of the drawing, it will be obvious that due to the fact that the body and its base are made from elastic material such as rubber, that pressure upon the body in the manner as shown in Fig- 10 ure 4 will not only have a tendency to force the contents of the body therefrom, but air pressure is created, which forms a dual function, namely it forces the contents from the body as well as has a drying effect thereon, consequently salt 1 even in a damp condition can be forced through the openings of the cap. Again, the openings 8 can be retained free from accumulation of the contents of the shaker by forcing air therethrough merely by applying pressure to the body, 2 therefore it will be apparent that the contents of my shaker can be easily and expeditiously removed at any time when desired, regardless of the condition thereof.

While it has been noted, that the body, its base and neck, are formed from elastic material, the base and neck may be formed from rigid material as a body of elastic compressible material is capable of creating sufficient air pressure for forcing the contents of the shaker therefrom.

It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.

I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.

What I claim is:

A condiment holder comprising an elastic compressible body of substantially oval formation and being restricted toward its upper end, a flat elastic base for said body and formed therewith, an elastic neck formed with the restricted upper end and being relatively thickened with an annular groove interiorly arranged therein, said restricted upper end merging into the neck in rounded formation to provide an exteriorly arranged annular concaved finger receiving portion, a substantially dome-shaped cap for closing the mouth of said neck and having dispensing openings therein, and an annular flange extending outwardly from the lower edge of the cap and shaped to fit the groove and detachably received therein.
