Description

mm STATES- This invention relates to anew and improved ignition point file and has for an object to provide an improved ignition point file which will not be easily lost by the mechanic. This ignition point file is especially intended for use in the automobile business and all other gasoline engines, such as cleaning timer points, coil points, magneto points, etc.
A further object of this invention is to provide an improved ignition point file which has an improved pocket clip integrally formed therewith whereby the mechanic may quickly and easily secure the same in his pocket without danger of losing the same and may easily remove the same from his pocket for use at any time.
Still a further object of'this invention is to provide an improved ignition point file that is small, thin, very handy and light in weight whereby the mechanic may carry the same in his coat or shirt pocket all day during his working hours like .a fountain pen with a clip so that the same will always be accessible irrespective of what other work he may be doing even though he bends forward or runs, for with this integral built on clip provided by this invention, the file is securely held in the pocket.
A further object of this invention is to provide an improved ignition point file that is very easy in operation due to the file handle, which contrary to the usual point file handle is made slightly larger and gives a better grip to the user.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, as will hereinafter become apparent, this invention comprises the constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts, hereinafter set forth, disclosed and shown on the accompanying drawing. In this drawing,

There is shown at the shirt waist of a mechanic having the pocket 11 in which is carried the improved ignition point file 12 constituting this invention. This ignition point file 12 comprises a file portion 13 and a handle portion 14. The file portion 13 has a fiat or squared end 15 as shown and has a double cutting filing surface 16 and 17' on the opposite side thereof. As will be observed, this file portion 13 is thin and fiat, it being of a thickness equal to the desired thickness between ignition points of automobile or gasoline engines. The handle portion 14 is several times the thickness of the file portion 13 due to the fact that the end of the handle portion 14 has been folded .over into a clip portion 17 ending in a semi-spherical depressed clip pin 18.
In operation, the handle portion 14 provides a secure and easy gripping means whereby the ignition point file 12 may be held in the hand and operated for cleaning ignition points. When not in use it will be placed in the mechanic's pocket 11 as shown, the file section 13 being pref-, erably placed within the pocket wherein it is protected from accumulating dirt, while a depressed semi-spherical clip pin 18 due to its semisphericalshape passes easily over the edge of the pocket 11 and remains on the outside thereof pressing against the file section 13 through the material of the pocket 11 therebetween, thus holding the same securely in position against the possibility of accidental loss or misplacement when the mechanic is doing other work.
The applicant is well aware of the issued patent to Centanni, No. 1,671,811, and to McFarland, No. 1,663,089. The files disclosed in each of these patents, however, are not suitable for applicants purpose and cannot serve the same uses as can applicant's invention. Applicants improvement over the prior art in general and over these two patents in particular is as hereinafter claimed.
The novel features and the operation of this device will be apparent from the foregoing description. While the device has been shown and the structure described in detail, it is obvious that this is not to be considered limited to the exact form disclosed, and that changes may be made therein within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus set forth and disclosed the nature of this invention, what is claimed is:
.An improved ignition point file comprising a file portion squared at one end and a handleportion integrally secured thereto at the other end, said handle portion being folded back upon itself forming a clip portion and a lower portion, said clip portion being of substantially the same width as said lower portion thereby pro- 'ducing a handle of greater thickness than that aiforded by said lower portion alone, said clip portion ending in a clip end, said clip end being semi-spherical and depressed toward the file whereby said clip end may be easily forced over .a pocket edge to hold the ignition point file therein, said depressed semi-spherical clip end serving to bring the pocket material against the file body with great security.
