UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MANICURE-TOOL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
' Patented Jan. 4, 1921.
Application filed October 7, 1920. Serial No. 415,271.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADELBERT EVELIN CHURCHILL, a-subject of the King of Great Britain, and a resident of the city of V10- toria, Province of British Columbia, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Manicure-Tools, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in manicure tools, and the object of my invention is to provide a simple, inexpensive, and handy device adapted to becarried on the person by the use of which the cuticle at the root and sides of the nails may be cut and trimmed with great ease and convenience.
I attain this object by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which- F1gure 1 1s a perspective view of my device.
Figs. 2 and 3 are views illustrating its practical application.
Fig. 1 is a sectional view taken on the line -i4i of Fig. 1.
Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 1.
Similar figures of reference indicate similar parts throughout the several views.
The device consists of a handle member, indicated generally by the numeral 1, having one end enlarged to form a gripping portion 2, while to its opposite end is secured a plate 3, preferably formed of razor steel, two opposite edges 4 and 5 of which are formed concave to fit the curve of the nail, the other two opposite edges being formed convex, as at 6 and 7. The edge 4 1S blunt and is used to push back the cuticle at the root of the nail while the edge 5 is of razor sharpness so that by pressing it on the cuticle and drawing it toward the end of the nail the cuticle is cut away, the concaveconstruction of the edge 5 insuring a clean out without ragged edges as when a pocket knife, for instance, is employed.
The end edges 6 and 7 are similar to the edges 4 and 5, one edge being blunt and the other edge sharp, and they are used in a similar manner, the blunt edge for pushing back the cuticle around the sides of the nail and the sharp edge for cutting it.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided a handy personal manicure tool which is of great convenience for trimming the nails.
What I claim as my invention is 1. A. device of the class described comprising, a handle, a plate secured to the end of said handle two opposite edges of which are firmed concave one of said edges being s arp.
2. A device of the class described comprising, a handle, a plate secured to the end of said handle two opposite edges of which are formed concave one of them being sharp, the other two opposite edges being formed convex one of them being sharp.
Dated at Quatsino, B. C. this 18th day of Sept, 1920.
ADELBERT EVELIN CHURCHILL.
