It will be apparent thatthe instant invention 'is especially adapted'for application to locomoe tives in'use', in that all that is necessary to be. done to the locomotive, is to apply ysuitable supports to the boxes. 5. A lateral motion resisting device comprising a pluralityrof helical springs; guide yokes engaging said helical springs at their respective outer ends and holding the springs in aligned positions;
a spacer disposed between the inner ends of said;
helical springs; means holding said guide yokes in operative position; and .bearing membersy formed on saidguide yokes extending outwardly therefrom.

In a railway vehicle, the combination of a` pair of .journal boxes having the `capacity of lateral movement; supporting elements mounted on the inner sides of said-journal boxes; and resilient means carried by said supporting elements comprising a pair of aligned springs, a pair of guide yokesV engaging the respective outer ends of said springs, and having extensions engaged with said supporting elements, and means holding said guide yokes in adjusted positions, where- I by lateral force will be exerted against one of said ports; guide yokes engaging the outer ends of said resilient means and engaging adjacent supports; and alineradapted to be disposed in one of said supports at the` end of the adjacent yoke.

side frame members having pedestals engaging` the boxes permitting independent, limited, lateral movement of the' boxes; a devicecomprising yielding resistance means disposed between and carried entirely by the boxes for yieldingly resisting inward movement of either of the boxes relative to its engaging pedestal; .and means for varying the degree of resistance of'said resistance means. 11. Ina railway vehicle, an axle having inside journals; a pair of wheels secured on the axle; journal boxes, having independent lateral movement relative to each other, for the journals;v
side frame members having pedestals engaging the boxes permittingrelative vertical movement and independent, limited, lateral movement of the boxes; and a device disposed between and carried entirely by the boxes'rfor yieldingly resisting inward movement of either of the boxes relative to its engaging pedestal, said device having a flexible connectionwith each of the boxes to permit the device to "tilt as the boxes move vertically relative to each other.

In a railway vehicle, an axle 'having inside journals; apair of wheels secured on the axle; journal boxes, having independent lateral movement relative to each other, for the journais; side frame members having pedestals engaging the boxes permitting independent, limitedflateral movement of the boxes; and a device disposed between and carried entirely by the boxes for yieldingly resisting inward movement of either of the boxes relative to its lengaging pedestal, comprising separate end parts movable inwardly respectively with the inward movement of the adjacent box when moving relative to its engaging pedestal under lateral pressure of the adjacent wheel, and resilient means between they parts resisting said inward movement, said resilient means automatically returning said moved part by outward movement Vthereof to normal position when the pressure is released.

A railway Avehicle comprising side frame members; oppositely disposed journal boxes engaging said frame members and having the capacity of lateral movement relative thereto; a helical spring .disposed between the boxes; a support for the spring disposed between the ends thereof; and a rigid element at each end of the spring, with its outer end abutting against and carried by the inner wall 'of its adjacent box.

A railway vehicle comprising side frame members; oppositely disposed journal boxes engaging said frame members andhaving the capacity of lateral movement relative thereto; a pair of helical springs aligned between said boxes; guide yoke means holding said springs and being adjustable to vary the amount of resistance loffered by said springs; and rigid elements at the opposite ends of said guide yoke means connected to and carried by the inner walls of the Yjournal boxes.
