IMPROVEMENT IN SHOULDER-BRACES.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALEXANDER ADAM- soN, of the city of Washington, in the county of Washington and District of Columbia, have invented an Improvement in Braces or Suspenders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.

This invention has for its object the improvement of the combined suspenders and braces for which Letters Patent were granted to me March 7, 1876, and numbered 174,459.

The nature of my present invention consists in combining with the figure-of-eight braces the front intermediate suspenderstraps, which are not only adjustable on the brace-straps, but which are readily detachable therefrom, and also detachably and adjustably applied to the tags, as will be hereinafter described.

In the combined suspenders and braces of my patent No. 174,459 the elastic front suspender-straps are attached permanently to the front portions of the braces, and are not desirable when the braces alone are used, but are in the way. I have therefore provided for detaching the said straps from the braces at pleasure, as will be hereinafter shown.

In the annexed drawings I have represented the braces made of-a single piece of webbing, arranged so as to slidethrough a back buckle, A, and to form a back strap, a, two shoulderstraps, b b, and two free ends or back suspender-straps, c 0, provided with button-hole tags 0 c. This forms the combined shoulderbraces and back suspender-straps described in my patent.

B B designate slides, which are respectively formed of one piece, and constructed to receive, through slots made in them, the front portions of the shoulder-braces, on which the said slides can be adjusted, for the purpose of allowing suspender-straps G O to draw. in directions which will 'be comfortable to the wearer.

The lower portions of the slides B B are per 'orated to receive cast-ofl' hooks e 6 formed on plates which are attached to the straps O. I am thus able to detach the elastic front straps C C from the braces when itis not desired to use these straps.

The lower ends of the suspender-straps O O are attached to buckles E E, and the bottomhole tags F Fare attached to these buckles by cast-off hooks ff and rings 9 g.

I do not claim, under this application, the figure-of-eight braces before referred to, nor do I claim, separately considered, the cast-ofl' hooks but I do claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Paten t- The combination and arrangement of the detachable elastic front intermediate suspender-straps O 0, their slides B B, and cast-off hooks e c, with the front shoulder portions of the braces, substantially as shown and described.
