This invention relates to firearms, and contemplates an improved method for the attachment of a sling strap to the fore-end of a firearm. In the past, where firearms have been provided with sling strap attachments, it has been customary to rigidly and immovably secure the sling strap attaching means at some point forward from the center of the un. However, the varying requirements of individual shooters render it desirable that the oint of attachment of the forward end of t e sling strap be capable of adjustment, templates a device for adjustably securing the forward end of a sling strap to a firearm fore=end.

Numeral 10 indicates the fore-end of a firearm, and numeral 11 a sling strap. The sling strap securing means comprises a recess in the fore-end into which is inserted an attachment base 12 in such a manner that its outer surface is substantially flush with the adjacent surface of the fore-end. The attachment the flanges of the channel being turned 1nwardly to form ledges 13 and 14 which, to- 40 gether with other parts of the channel, define a T-slot extending longitudinally of the base.
Suitable means, such as screws 15 and 16, are provided for attaching the base to the lore-end, said screws extending throu h 45 counter-sunk apertures in the base. In t e and to that end the present invention conattachingmeans and adjabase is generally of channel sha e,
part of the base which forms the bottom of the T-slot are a number of depressions 17 adapted to receive the end of a set screw 18. The set screw 18 passes through a head 19 of a strap holding member inwhich is pivoted a strap receiving ring 20. The crosssection ofthe head 19 conforms to and is received in. the T-slot in the base 12. Said head further comprises flanges 21 ada ted to rest upon theledges 13- and 14 of the ase.
It will be seen that by retracting set screw 18 to clear the depression 17 in the bottom of the T-slot the strap supporting member may be adjusted longitudinally of the base to any desired position and secured in such position by again advancing the set screw 18 into engagement with one of the depressions17.
The invention is not to be considered as "limited to the particular embodiment thereof herein described and illustrated in the; drawing, but isto be construed as extending to all equivalent devices which fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. Means foradjustably attaching a strap to the fore-end of'a firearm com a base secured in the surface of sling prisin and substantially flush wit said fore-end, and a strap holding member adjustably held on said base. 7 2. Means for adjustably securing a sling strap to the fore-end of a firearm comprising a recess in said'fore-end, a base held in said recess, a strap holding member, and means for securing said strap holding member to said base in any one of a plurality of positions. j
3. Means for. adjustably securing a sling strap to the fore-end of afirearm comprising an elongated basesecured in said fore-end, a longitudinal slot in said base, depressions in said slot, a strap holding member comprising a head adapted to be received in said slot, and a set screw on said member adapted to bereceived in a desired one of said ,depressions, thereby looating and holding said membase to said fore-end,
