SIGHTING ATTACHMENT FOR SHOTGUNS.
Application filed March 26, 1925, Serial No. 18,589, and. in Great Britain April 16, 1924.
This invention relates to a sighting-accessory or attachment for shot-guns for the purpose of correcting the tendency to shoot low at game going away and behind birds coming over.
According to the invention, the attachnient consists of a yoke-shaped block of vulcanite or other suitable material designed to fit tightly over the breech of the gun barrels and to project above the level of the breech. The elevated portion of the attachment serves to correct the above-mentioned tendency. a
The attachment is preferably of an internal contour agreeing exactly with the external contour of the barrels, so that the attachment can be readily fitted or withdrawn by passing it over the tapered gun barrels, and is held in place at the breech by its frictional grip upon the gun barrels.
The preferred construction of my attachment is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, Fig. 1 showing the attachment fitted to a shot-gun and Fig. 2 showing the attachment removed.
As illustrated, the attachment consists of a yoke-shaped block 3 of vulcanite or other suitable material of a convenient thickness, which ismade to fit over the breech of the gun barrels 4, so that the upper edge 5 of the block 3 projects above the level of the breech of the gun. T he block 3 is shaped internally as shown to agree exactly with the external contour of the gun barrels.
In applying the attachment to the gun,
forcing it forwards along the barrels.
If desired, the attachment may be fixed to or removed from the gun by any other convenient means.
Cla1ms- 1. A detachable device for double-barrel 4% shotguns designed to increase the normal elevation of the gun when shooting, comprising a rigid block, the inner edge of which conforms to the configuration of the two barrels at the rear thereof, whereby the block can be fitted to the gun by sliding it over the barrels from front to rear thereof until the block is held by friction, there being a sighting groove in the upper edge of the block and directly over the rib be tween the two barrels.
2. A detachable device for doublebarrel shot guns designed to increase the normal elevation of the gun when shooting, comprising a, rigid block shaped to form two 68 opposite horns, each adapted to partially encircle one of the barrels, and a substantially horizontal connecting bridge notched on its underside to fit the rib between the two barrels and provided centrally in its upper edge with a sighting groove.
