This invention relates to a novel and improved non-refillable replacement container for face powder and the like and its obJect is to prevent such replacement containers be- 5 ing fraudulently refilled with face powder or other like material of another make than that which the purchaser believes he or she is buying. Such replacement containers are generally held in a more permanent and decorative metal case having a hinged lid and in addition to the replacement containerthis metal box usually holds the powder puflf and may have a small mirror on the inner face of the lid. The present invention applies solely to the replacement container which is purchasable as a separate article and when the powder has all been used it is replaced by another.
According to this invention the powder is held in a receptacle suitably hollowed out and a flexible sieve of fine mesh is laid over the powder and retained in position by means of a retaining band embracing the sides of the receptacle and having an inwardly projecting flange extending over the edge of the sieve to retain it in place. As the powder is used the flexible sieve conforms to the top surface of the powder. It is sometimes preferred to employ a sieve which is not only flexible but is elastic. be more readily understood from the following description made with reference to the accompanying drawing and the novel features thereof are set forth in the claim. The powder is contained in the hollowed out top of the receptacle a which is so shaped as regards its hollowed out portion that a flexible material such as a metallic sieve of fine mesh or a fabric can fully conform to such internal surface without leaving any unfilled corners. A retaining'band or rim d is then laid around the receptacle and cover, being suitably attached as by an adhesive. The retaining band (Z has aninturned flange d at its upper edge and this in-turned flange passes over the edge of the sieve b and retains it in place, even when the sieve in use is flexed downwardly, as for instance as shown bythe dotted position indicated at b in Figure 2. If the sieve is made of metal wire, which is flexible but not .very elastic, the flange or rim d and the inturned flange 0' allow the edgeof the sieve toslide a small amount when it is flexed and the amount of this sliding movement permits the metal sieve to conform to the convexity of the bottom of the hollowed out receptacle. The retaining band d may also have an inwardly projecting flange d at its base'or bottom of the receptacle.
