Specification of Letters Patent.

'Application filed Hatch 29, 1920.l Serial No. 869,605.
Tov all wko/m. t may concern:
Be it known that I, HERMAN W. WEISS, a citizen of the United States,
residin at Monroe, in the county of Monroe and tatev of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Wrist Tablets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to note books and the like and the primary object of the invention is to provide an improved device for receiving ineinorandums adapted to be detachably fastened to the wrist of the user so that notes can be quickly written thereon or read therefrom, and which will effectively prevent the user from forgetting certain things that are necessary to be accomplished during the day.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an improved device for receiving memorandums, which can be worn similar to the ordinary wrist watch and which embodies a tablet, a pencil and holder.
further object of the invention is the provision of an improved hinged protecting cover for the tablet, which will protect the matter written thereon from becoming blurred or obliterated, and which forms a part of the pencil holder, the pencil forming means for holding the protector in position.
A further object of the invention is the provision of an improved device for receiving memorandums embodying a rigid holder or frame carrying a wrist strap, the holder or frame being arranged to receive a piece of slate or other material from which the matter written thereon can be erased when desired, and carrying a hinged cover and a pencil holder.
A further object of the invention is the i provision of an improved device for receiving memorandums of the above character, which is durable and ellicient in use, one that is simple and easy to manufacture, and one which can. be placed upon the market at a reasonable cost.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement and formation of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the iinproved device showing the same in operative position on the wrist of the user.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the improved device showing the hinged protector in its oplen position.
igure 3 is a fra mentar bottom l n View of the device. g y p a Figure 4 is an enlarged transverse section thil'pugh tie improved holder, and I igure is a on itudinal section th h the holder. g mug Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding, parts throughout the several views, the letter A indicates the improved device, which includes the holder B, the supportmg device C, the tablet D, the protector E, and the pencil holder l?.
The holder includes a substantially rectangular frame having a bottom wall or plate 10, upstanding side walls 11, and en d walls 12. rlhe end walls 12 are provided with inwardly extending retaining flanges 13 which are adapted to extend in parallel. relation to lthe bottomv wall 10 and are adapted to hold the tablet D in position against accidental displacement. The bottom wall 10 is provided with a pair of spaced slots 141'-, and the portion intermediate the slots is .outst'ruck as at`15, which is clearly shown 1n Figure 4C of the drawings. rlhe `slots Allare adapted to receive the supporting device C, and the same is held against displacement by a suitable fastening element 16 such as a rivet, or the like. The holder B can be made out of any preferred type of material, but sheet metal has been found to be the most desirable, as the bottom wall 10, the sidewalls 11 and the end walls 12 can be formed from a single piece of metal.
The supporting device C as shown consists of a strap 17 provided with the ordinary or any preferred type of buckle 18 and the strap is adapted to be placed around the wrist of the user and adjusted according to the size thereof.
The tablet D is preferably formed of a section of slate 19, as the matter written thereon can be readily washed oil the same when desired and thus the same tablet can be repeatedly used. However, other material may be used if desired, and it has been found that white celluloid may be used and the ordinary lead pencil used in connection therewith. The matter written on the cellu- 1f so desired, however, a small tablet of writing paper may be substituted for the piece of slate or celluloid.
Sti
The protector E includes a substantially flat metallic plate 20 provided with` a plurality ot equi-distantlyV spaced slots 2l through wh-icli the pencil may be placed when memorandums are being written on the writing surface D. rl`he protector E is liiiigedly connected to the bodyor holder B and the plate 20 and one side wall 11, is provided with aligned hinged barrels 22 for the reception of a pivotpin 23. lt can be seen that the protector E may be swung back on the pivot pin 23 when it is desired to wash the matter written on the tablet D or when it is desired to write matter in between the slots 2l. The material of the plate 20 is opaque, and between the slots 21 serves to hide the matter written on the tablet from the eyes of a casual observer.
The pencil holder F includes a pair of spaced downwardly extending hooks 24, which -are formed on the upper surface of the end wall 11 opposite to the hinged barrels 23. The forward edge of the plate 2O of the protector E carries an upwardly extending hook 25 which is adapted to lie intermediate the hooks-24E When the protector is in its closed position over the upper surface of the tablet D. The hooks 24 and 25 are substantially semi-circular in cross section and serve to form a cylindrical container for the rece tion of a pencil 26 When the protector is in its closed position. When the pencil 26 is arranged between the- hooks 24 and 25 accidental displacement of the protectorE is absolutelv prevented.
The pencil 26 may be of any preferred type and constructed according to the material to be Written upon.
From the foregoing description it can be seen that an improved device is provided for receiving the memorandums Which can be attached to the Wrist of the user and thus permit memorandums to be quickly and easily jotted down when the occasion arises.
`Changes in details may be made without departing from the spirit or scope of this invention; but,
il ,ll-072239 l claim: l. A device for receiving memorandums comprising a frame, means for supporting the trame, a writing tablet, means for re adapted to overlie the up er face of the.
frame for enclosing the Writing tablet and having certain openings-therein permitting access to the writing tablet, means for securing said cover at its free end, and means for attachment of the device to a support.
2. A device for receiving memorandums, comprising a frame, a tablet carried by lsaid. frame, and having an exposed Writing surface, and a protecting plate of opaque material hingedly connected to said frame and disposed over said Writing surface, said protecting plate having slots therein for Writing therethrough upon the tablet, when the protecting plate is closed, and said protecting plate adapted to be opened to Write upon portions of said Writing surface, for concealing said writing when the lid is closed.
3. device for receiving memorandums comprising a rigidv frame having a bottom wall, side Walls and end walls, a writing tablet carried by the frame in abuttin rel lation to said Walls, inwardly exten `ng Hanges carried by certain of said walls and arranged to engage the upper portion of said Writing table, a hinged protecting plate carried by the frame, and a wrist strap carried by the said frame.
4. ln a device for receiving memorandums comprising a frame including a bottom Wall, side Walls and end Walls, a piece of slate arranged in abutting relation to the Walls, overhanging flanges carried by the end Walls arranged to engage the upper surface of the slate, a hinged protecting cover having slots formed therein carried by one of the side walls, a pencil holder carried by the protecting cover and the opposite sidewall, and a slate pencil positioned in said holder.
