IMPROVEMENT IN ORNAMENTAL CHAIN-LINKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 189,797, dated April 17, 1877; application filed I February 10, 1877.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EDWARD F. SEERY, of
the city and county of Providence, and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ornamental Chain-Links; and I hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
Figure l is a perspective view of my improved chain-link. Fig. 2 is a sectional viewof the same.
The object of this invention is to construct an ornamental chain-link, such as are used for watch-chains, or other chains made by jewelers, out of the fewest possible parts, and without solder, and so that while they are strong and massive in appearance, they shall be light, ornamental, and cheaply constructed.
The invention consists in the novel method of constructing a link of any desired length out of an open loop of wire forced into tubu lar sleeve, so that a portion of the loop projects on each end of the sleeve to receive the connecting-ring, and the open portion of the link is firmly held by the tubular sleeve, so as to prevent the opening or stretching of the same, without-the use of solder.
In the drawings, a is a piece of metal tube,
of any desired length, and ornamented in any manner desired. 1) is a loop of wire, of suitable section, bent so as to project at each end of the tube. This loop I) is made larger than the internal diameter of the .sleeve a, and is forced into the same, and a connecting-link, 0, passed through the projecting semicircular loops at each end of the tubular sleeve on. c c are the connecting-rings.
When constructed asdescribed, the loop b is firmly held, and cannot stretch or get loose;
and when the tubular sleeve is ornamented 'in' EDWARD F. SEERY.
