UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SIGMUND L. LEDERER, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
DESIGN FOR AN ORNAMENTAL CHAIN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,794, dated February 28, 1882.
' Application filed December 22, 1881. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SIGMUND L. LEDERER, a citizen of the United States, residingat Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Ornamental Chains, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
Figure l is a perspective view of an ornamental four-sided sleeve, representing on each side the blockletter E. It is formed ot'a short piece of square tubing, cross-cut at each end, so as to represent on each of the four sides the letter H. These short square letter-H sleeves are connected with the, links of an ornamental chain in various ways, and form the leading feature of my new design. Fig. 2 is a perspective view, showing links of an ornamental chain united by means of the letter-H sleeves shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective view, showing a link for an ornamental chain, ornamented by inserting three of the letter-H sleeves. Fig. 4is aperspeotive view ofa twisted chain-link, ornamented by inserting two letter- H sleeves. Fig. 5 is a perspective View of a chain-link, showing one of the letter-H sleeves inserted between the loops of the link.
In the drawings, a is a short piece ofsquare tube, into the ends of which the cuts 12 b are made. When so cut the short piece of tube represents on each one of its four sides the block-letter H, in metal.
c c are links made of loops, into which or between which the short pieces of square tube are inserted to form the ornamental part of the link or the connection between the links, as
is shown in the different figures of the drawings.
Heretofore ornamentalchain-links have been ornarnented in a variety of ways by sleeves the various forms shown in the drawings.
Having thus described my newly-invented design, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- 1. The design for ornamental chains herein shown and described, the s-nne consisting in combining with chain-links a short piece'of square tubing having the ends cut In crosscuts, so that each side represents the letter H.
2. The design for ornamental chains herein shown and described, the same consisting in placing short pieces of square tubing, each side of which represents the letter H, within or between the chain-links, with the axis of the tube at right angles to the line of the link, as described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
SIGMUND L. LEDERER.
