IMPROVEMENT IN lRONlNG-TABLES.
. Specification forming part of Letters Patent No 189,663, dated April 17, 1877 application filed February 10, 1877.
To all whom tt may concern Be it known that I, EDGAR B. SMITH, of
' Nyack, in the county of Bockland and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Ironing-Table, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view of my improved ironing-table arranged for use, taken through the line a: as, Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is an under-side view of the same, folded for storage. Fig. 3 is a cross'section of the sad-iron holder.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved ironing-table, simple in construction and convenient in use, being firm and stable when opened out, and very compact when folded.
The invention will first be described in connection with the drawing, and then pointed out in the claim.
A represents the table-top, which may be of any desired size and form. To the middle part of the under side of the table-top A is secured a cross-bar, B, to the efids of which are pivoted, by screws, the upper ends of two legs, 0, connected by a cross-bar, c. To the lower side of the top A, a little in the rear of the cross-bar B, is attached a second crossbar, D, to the ends of which are attached the forward ends of two bars, E. The cross-bars B D serve as supports for the other parts, and
at the same time they prevent the top A from warping. The bars E extend back along, and are attached to, the under side of the top A, and to the lower edges of their rear parts are attached the ends of a cross-bar, F. To the middle parts of the bars E are pivoted, by screws, the upper ends of two legs, G, which are connected by a cross-bar, g. To the legs of each pair 0 G are pivoted the ends of two rods, H, which are bent intoV shape, and have an eye formed in them at their angle. The eyes of the rods H are passed over studs I, attached the one to the under side of the top A, or to a block attached to said top, and the other to the cross-bar F. To the ends of the studs I are pivoted buttons J, which, when turned across the eyes of the rods H, keep said rods from being accidentally jarred out of place. The rods H hold the legs 0 G securely in place when adjusted for use. To the upper side of the forward end of the top A is attached a casting, K, which is made with two grooves in its lower side, with openings through its center, and along its sides, and with slats in its upper part to allow air to circulate through it to keep it cool.
The grooves in the lower side of the casting K are designed to receive the forks or prongs formed upon the casting L, attached to the shirt or ironing board M, to support said board above the tabletop A.
The board M when not required for use is slipped into the space between the cross-bar F and the under side of the table-top A.
When not required for use, the legs 0 G are folded down along the under side of the table top, so that the ironing-table, when folded, will require no more space than the thickness of the said top and legs.
Having thus described my invention, 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The V-shaped brace-rods H, having eyes formed in their angles, and the studs and buttons I J, in combination with the pivoted legs 0 G, and the table-top A, substantially as herein shown and described.
EDGAR B. SMITH.
