ALBERT LABKIN, OF ALMOND, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN IRONING-TABLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 159,688, dated February 9, 1875; application led July 1o, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT LARKIN, of Almond, in the county of Allegany and State of New York, have invented. certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Ironing- Table, Clothes-Basket, Clothes-Rack, 85o.; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full,
clear, and exact description thereof, reference` being had to the accompanyin g drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the combination of certain bars and elements, whereby a folding structure is obtained which may be used as an ironing-table withrclothesrack and clothes-basket, and for various other purposes, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and` use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front view of my folding-structure when used as an ironingtable, with clothes-rack and clothes-basket. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section of the same through the line x w, Fig. l. Figs. 3, 4, 5, and 6 show the structure in various other positions; and` Fig. 7 is a section through one of the joints.
A A represent the front legs, and B B the rear legs. The two front legs, A A, are connected by the front O, having pins a c at its upper and lower corners at each end passing through the legs. The rear legs B B are connected in a similar manner by a back, D, having pins b b passing through said legs. The front C and back D are slotted, or otherwise made open. The bottom pins of the front and back on each side pass through a cross-bar, E, thereby connecting the front and rear legs. The cross-bars E E have the bottom G secured to them, as shown. On each of the top pins of the front O is pivoted a bar, H, the other end of which is slotted longitudinally for a suitable distance, and passed over the pin b of the back D, as shown. To the upper end. of each front leg, A, is pivoted an arm, I, the other end of which is cut with a square notch, e, on the under side, to lit over one of the square bars J of the clothes-rack system, hereinafter described. The arms I, being held horizontally, form supports for an ironingtable, K, as shown in Fig. 2, the front C, back D, and bottom G forming a clothes-basket. The rear legs B are extended upward for a suitable distance, and to each is connected a system of arms, L L, connected by transverse bars J J. The bars J J are made square, and provided with round tenons d passing through the arms L.
The arms L and bars J may be arranged in any suitable manner to form a folding and extension clothes-rack. One of the arms L on each side forms an additional leg, as shown in the drawings.
This combination of elements may be used for various other purposesfor instance, as a writing-desk, as shown in Fig. 3, or as a settee, as shown in Fig. 4. In Fig. 5 I have shown it as a crib, and in Fig. 6 as clothesbars only. When used for these purposes the table K will, of course, have to be removed.
It can be extended or unfolded in a variety of ways, and when not in use it may be folded up in a very small compass and put away.
Having thus fully described my invention,
what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the legs A B, frontO,
.back l), cross-bars E, bottom G, arms H I,
and the system of arms L, and bars J, and with or without the table K to form the vay rions articles, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALBERT LARKIN. I/Vitnesses:
P. L. GREEN, Y C. A. STRAIGHT.
