IMPROVEMENT IN STANDS FOR WASH-TUBS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 175,223, dated March 21, 1876; application filed January To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN J. WHITE, of the city and county of Norfolk and State of Virginia, have invented a new and Improved Wash-Tub Stand, Clothes-Holder, and Ironing-Board; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of the invention ready for ironing; Fig.2, an end elevation; Fig. 3, a vertical cross-section; Fig. 4, a side elevation, showing the invention with the ironing devices closed from view.

The invention consists in constructing a hollow stand so that it may receive the soiled clothes, hold the wash-tubs, and support the ironing-board; in providing opposite inwardly-inclined ledgesto receive the wash-tubs and bottom sections to sustain the ironingboard; also, in the means for holding the bottom sections of stand in a secure and stable position.

Arepresents stand, having the cavity a to receive soiled clothes, and the inclined opposite ledges a a! to hold the wash-tubs. The bottom is made in two sections, B B, one hinged near each end, and both (when raised to a perpendicular position) supported behind by an end piece, 0, and in front by a spacing-bar, D, held in open slots of the side pieces D D. On the top of these sections B B (when elevated) is sustained an ironing-board, E, which fits between two studs, b b, at one end, and has at the other two side pins or pivots, e e, that fit in the section-bearings b b, one of which is open to permit the ready removal of the ironing-board when not required for use.

F F are hooks on the ends of stand, arranged so as to catch in eyes G G on the sections B, the latter being thus held firmly in a vertical position.

The clothes accumulate in the cavity of stand until wash-day, when the tubs are supported on the ledges until they are washed. The sections of bottom, are then erected and the ironing-board secured iii-place, when the garments are passed through the ironing operation. By closing the sections B, and placing the ironing-board on the stand, a very good bench is formed.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is 1. A combined wash-tub stand, clothes-holder, and ironing-board,consisting of a stand, having cavity a, inclined opposite ledges a c, the bottom in sections B B, hinged at each end, and receiving on top an ironing-board, as and for the purpose described.

2. The stand A, provided with the opposite inclined ledges, as and for the purpose described.

3. The combination, with hinged sections B B, having studs and bearings at free end, of an ironing-board, provided with one end tittin g between said studs, and the other having side pins that lit in the bearings, as and for the purpose described.

4. The combination, with sections B B folding back against end pieces 0 G, of hooks and eyes and spacing-bar D to hold them, in the manner specified.
