IMPROVEMENT IN SEAL-BOLTS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 188,997, dated March 27, 1877; application filed February 21, 1877.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ANDREW F. Wnrrme, of Norwich, in the county of New London and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Seal-Bolts; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is perspective views of my improved seal-bolt and seal; and Fig. 2 is a section of the bolt and a side view of the seal.

Corresponding parts in the two figures are denoted by like letters.

This invention relates to a certain improvement in seal-bolts, particularly designed forcar-doors; and it consists of a bolt having a spring-catch, andprovided, in one side, and

its lower end, with a slot or recess, and the combination therewith of a seal, having a recessed or socketed plate and an arm, substantially as herein more fully set forth.

In the annexed drawing, A refers to the bolt, which is provided, in one side, with a slot or recess, a, and in its lower cndwith another slot or cavity, b, the object of which will appear hereinafter. One side of the cavity or slot b of the bolt is left open, as at b in Fig. 1. B is a catch inserted into a chamber in the bolt A, within which it ishcld by a pin, 0, passing through the bolt and a slot, at, in the said catch. By means of the slot d the catch B is allowed a limited amount of movement. Behind the catch B is introduced a spring, 6, to automatically project it. C is the seal, having an angular plate, f, upon which may be cast an elevation, f, provided with a bolt, when'the spring-catch B will spring into the cavity or recess 9 0f the plate f, and thus lock the parts together. To remove the seal, with its plate f, it is only necessary to knock its arm h off, when the parts will separate.

The arm it may be omitted without interfering with the function of my bolt.

The slot or cavity in the lower end of the bolt being shown in a former application of mine it is only desired, in the present application, to claim. that feature-in connection with the recess or slot in one side of the bolt, and a seal adapted for use therewith.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
