Description
Nov. 29, 1932. M. J. ROSENBERG COMBINATION GYMNASIUM SUIT FOR FEMALE WEAR Filed Jan. 20, 1952 gwvento'o IHOSI1687 Q Murine Patented Nov. 29, 1932 UNITED STATES MAURICE J. ROSENBERG, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND COMBINATION GYMNASIUM SUIT FOB FEMALE WEAR Application filed January 20, 1932. Serial No. 587,782.
This invention relates to a combination gymnasium suit for female wear and has for its object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a suit of such class so formed to permit of the desired freedom of the body, arms and limbs when the wearer thereof is performing gymnastic exercises, and including a pair of outer shorts and a pair of inner shorts permanently anchored to the waist line of the outer shorts and capable of being anchored to the limbs of the wearer whereby the pair of inner 'shorts will permanently function to conceal the crotch, abdomen, buttocks, thighs, hips and portions of the limbs of the wearer when the outer pair of shorts are shifted to expose the inner pair of shorts during the carrying out of the gymnastic exercises by the wearer.
Further objects of the invention are to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a combination gymnasium suit which is simple in its construction, strong, durable, thoroughly efficient in its use for the purpose intended, capable of being conveniently and quickly positioned upon the wearer, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
To the above ends essentially and others which may hereinafter appear, the invention consists of such parts and such combination of parts which fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a combination gymnasium suit in accordance with this invention and illustrating in dotted lines the inner pair of shorts.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary view of the suit in vertical section.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary View in vertical section illustrating the point of joinder be tween the waist, outer pair and inner pair of shorts. 1
The suit includes a waist, a pair of outer shorts and a pair of inner shorts referred to generally at 1, 2 and 3. The outer pair of shorts is of less length and completely encompasses the inner pair of shorts.
The waist 1 flares from the waist line of the suit to the arm holes 4 formed in the waist and the latter includes shoulder parts 5 and a neck opening 6 centrally of its top. The opening 6 depends a greater distance at the front of the waist 1 than at the rear of the latter. That part of the opening (3 formed in the front of waist 1 is of V-contour. 5 Each shoulder part 5 is split to form a front and a rear section, the latter being folded upon ltself at its top to provide a front flap 7 carrylng a plurality of buttons 8. The top of the front section has buttonholcs 9 6O coacting with the buttons 8 for detachably connecting the front and rear sections of a shoulder part together. The bottom of the waist is bent inwardly and upwardly upon itself to provide an upstanding fold 10. Preferably the waist is formed of separate front and rear sections secured together at the sides thereof as at 11.
The outer pair of shorts 2 flares from the waist line of the suit to its lower end and in eludes a body part 12, a pair of oppositelv extending wide leg parts 13, a crotch 1 1 and at its top is bent outwardly and downwardly upon itself to provide a depending fold 15. The outer pair of shorts 2 is oppositely flared with respect to. the waist 1. The fold 15 is positioned in the space formed between the .fold 10 and lower part of waist 1. The flare of the outer pair of shorts being greater than that of the waist. The length of the leg part 13 will be such that such parts will terminate at or just above the knees of the wearer.
The inner pair of shorts 3 includes a pairof leg parts 16, a crotch 17 a body part 18 and at its top is bent outwardly and d ownwardly to provide a depending fold 19 which is positioned between the fold 15 and lower part of waist 1. The leg parts 16 are of less length than, encompassed by and spaced from the leg parts 13. The lower ends of leg parts 16 are set up in a. known manner as to be capable of being contracted and extended and are illustrated as normally contracted as at 20 for gripping the legs of the wearer. The lower ends of leg parts 16 function to grip the limbs of the wearer when the suit is used. The width of the leg parts of the inner pair of shorts is materially lessthan that of the leg parts of the outer pair of shorts.
The crotch 14 of the outer air of shorts in cross section is materially eeper than the crotch 17 of the inner pair of shorts in cross section. This arrangement enables for the free movement of the legs of the wearer when kicking or in other words permits of the leg parts 13 of the outer pair of shorts to be elevated throughout without retardation and which would not be permitted if the crotch 14 was arranged at the outer end of the leg parts 13. The crotch 17 of the inner pair of shorts is arranged in close proximity to the crotch 14 of the outer pair of shorts.
the waist line of the suit and are secured together by rows of stitching 21, the latter of the wearer-when the pair of shorts 3 are worn. The body part 12 envelops body part 18 and has its top or upper end portion throughout opposing the top or upper end portion of body part 18. The latter at its upper end portion overlaps the upper end portion of body part 12, owing to the'arrangement of the folds 10, relatively to each other.
The upper end of the inner pair of shorts 3 is permanently anchored with the outer pair of shorts 2 at the waist line of the suit and the lower end thereof, when the suit is worn is anchored to the limbs of the wearer, and
' by this arrangement the inner pair of shorts 3 is held permanently in a position to conceal the crotch, abdomen, buttocks, thighs, hips.
and portions of the wearer in the case the outer pair of shorts is shifted to expose the inner pair during the carrying out of the gymnastic exercises by the wearer. The inner pair of shorts 3 from its upper end is permanently free throughout from the outer pair of shorts 2.
A removable belt is indicated at 22, is arranged at the waist portion 'of the suit and extends through spaced retainers 23.
What I claim is 1. A combination gymnasium suit comprising a waist, a pair of outer shorts, a pair of inner shorts encompassed by the outer pair of shorts, said Waist and two pair of shorts being permanently connected together at the waist line of the suit, each pair. of shorts including a pair of leg parts, a body part and a crotch, the lower ends of the leg parts of the inner pair of shorts being contractible and expandible, that part of the inner pair of shorts from the upper end of the latter being free of connection throughout from said outer pair of shorts, the crotch of the outer pair of shorts in cross section being materially deeper than the crotch of the inner pair of shorts in cross section, the leg parts of the outer pair of shorts being of materially greater length and Width than that of the leg parts of the inner pairs of shorts, and the leg parts of the outer pair of shorts depending below the lower ends of the leg parts of the inner pair of shorts.
2. In a gymnasium suit, a pair of outer shorts, a pair of inner shorts encompassed by the pair of outer shorts, each pair of shorts The folds 10, 15 and 19 are arranged at including a body part, a pair of legs extendmg from the lower endportion of the body part and a crotch connecting the front and rear of the bodypart together between the leg parts, the body part of said inner air of shorts formed to encompass the hips o)? the wearer and having its upper end portion for encompassing the waist hne of the wearer, the body part of said outer pair of shorts having its upper end portion throughout opposing the upper end portion of the body part of said inner pair of shorts, means for securing the upper end portions of said body parts together, said inner pair of shorts having the lower ends of the leg parts thereof contractible and expandible for gripping the legs of the Wearer, that part of said inner pair of shorts from the portion thereof opposing the waist line of the wearer being free of connection throughout from said outer pair of shorts, the crotch of the outer pair of shorts in cross section being materially deeper than the crotch of the inner pair of shorts in cross section, and the legs of the outer pair of shorts being of materially greater length and width than that of the leg parts of the inner pair of shorts.
