Description

Nov. 8, 1932. A. c. BOURDETTE GARBAGE PAIL Filed April 11. 1950 ATTORNEY WITNESS:
Patented Nov. 8, 1932 UNETE FAT; FFEQE AUGUSTUS C. BO'UE-DETTE, OF ALTOONA, PENNSYLVANIA F GARBAGE PAIL Application filed April 11,
My present invention has reference to a sanitary garbage receiver, and my object is the provision oi a device or" this character that includes a body or casing, in the nature of a pail, an inner toraminous receptacle in which the wet garbage is dumped so that the liquid therefrom will drain into the body or casing together with a cover of a novel construction which is held from turning when latched on the body or casing, provided with a hinged door for the passage of garbage into the receptacle and which also carries a box or container for a deodorant which is apertured and which is provided with an 5 apertured valve top movable to regulate the admission of atmosphere air through the deodorizer container and the receptacle and body.
The invention also consists in certain other novel features of construction, combination and operative association of parts hereinafter to be described and definitely claimed.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a substantially central vertical longitudinal sectional view through the improvement.
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof.
Figure 3 is a sectional view on the line 33 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a plan view of the inner disc that provides an element of the valve or closure for the deodorizer and disinfectant container.
The body 1 of the improvement is in the nature of an ordinary pail and is provided, adjacent to its bottom with a liquid outlet opening that is normally closed by a removable cap 2. The mouth of the body 1 is beaded, as at 3.
Removably received in and resting on the mouth 3 of the body 1 there is a ioraminous receptacle 4. The receptacle has a beaded mouth 5 to engage with the bead 3 of the body 1 and the body of the receptacle is flared or funnel-shaped.
The pail-like body 1 has secured on its opposite sides and adjacentto its top spring clamps 6 formed with substantially V-shaped engaging jaws to be received in and contact 5 with the angle inner walls 7 provided in the 1930. Serial no. 443,525.
flanged depending portions 8 which extend from the lower edges of the flanged cover 9 for the improvement.
The cover is formed with a substantially semi-cylindrical opening that is normally closed by a hinged and spring influenced door 10, the said door being provided with a knob 11. The cover 9, to one side of the door 10, is formed with a round opening which is surrounded by a container 12 for a deodorant. The container 12 has its sides apertured, as at 13, and the means that attach the flanged mouth of the container to the top or'closure 9 are preferably in the nature of headed bolts or studs 14 that project a suitable distance'above the top or closure 9. Designed to be arranged over the container 12 there is a perforated disc 15, the said disc having round openings 16 through which the headed studs 14 pass. The disc 15 is centrally pivoted to an outer apertured disc 17, the pivot between the discs being provided with an operating handle 18. The disc 17 is formed with arcuate key-hole slots 19 whose wider passage receives therethrough the headed studs 14.
By this arrangement it will be noted that the valve discs cover the container 12, the disc 15 is held from turning by the studs 14, but the disc 17 may be turned through the instrumentality of the handle 13 to bring its apertures into or out of alinement with those in the disc 15 without removing the discs from the top or closure 9.
The pail or body 1 is provided with the usual bail or handle 20, whereby the device may be conveyed when desired.
The spring hinged door 10 will normally close but when opened permits of the insertion of garbage into the receptacle 4. The moisture from such garbage will pass through the apertures or interstices of the receptacle 4 and will be directed into the pail or body 1. This liquid may be drained through the opening closed by the cap. The fumes arising from the garbage will be attected by the disinfectant or deodorizer in the container 12, and atmospheric air is admitted into the device and its admission is regulated by the valve cover for the container. Nox- 1 ious odors from the garbage will be purified before finding an outlet through the deodorizing chamber and the apertured valve or closure therefor.
' The body or casing 1 is designed to have received in the lower or bottom portion thereof a carbon disinfectant. This disinfectant may be inserted through the open top of the body or through the opening closed by the 1 cap 2. The carbon disinfectant is removed at determined spaced intervals and when employed will consume the drainage from the garbage.
Having described the invention, I claim: A closure designed to be removably clamped on a garbage pail, said closure having an opening therethrough to afford apassage for garbage, a hinge'dly supported cover for the opening, said closure having a second opening, a deodorant container having an outwardly flanged mouth disposed opposite the opening, headed studs having their outer portions passed through the closure and the flange for securing the container on the closure, an apertured disc having round openings to receive therethrough the headed studs, a second apertured disc having oppositely directed arcuately arranged key-hole slots to receive the studs through the enlarged passo sages thereof and allow said disc to be guided by the studs to bring its apertures into or out of alinement with the apertures in the first named disc, and an opening handle for the last-named outer disc. 35 In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
AUGUSTUS C. BOURDETTE.
