T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, THOMAS Foes, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful improvements in Incinerators. of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a receptacle for receiving garbage, ashes, or other refuse, and has for its primary object the construction of a receptacle in which combustible mate rials can be burned and the fumes and smoke conducted to a point where they will not be offensive.

An object of the invention is the construe tion of a receptacle that will support refuse in such a manner that all moisture will be drained therefrom and all offensive odors conducted from the receptacle.

A feature of the invention is the construe-- tion of a receptacle in which garbage or other waste material may be deposited to be burned.

lVith these and other objects in view the invention will be better understood from the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein:

Again referring to the drawing illustrating one construction of my invention the numeral 1 designates a casing which may be of any shape, size or constructed of any suitable material. In this particular case the re ceptacle is composed of concrete having partition 2 for forming a plurality of compartments 3, which in this particular instance are two in number, although the number may be increased or decreased at will. In the top 3 of the receptacle is arranged an inlet 4 to each compartment the wall of which is provided with grooves 5 and 6 for supporting the closure plates 7 and 8 in spaced relation so as to accomplish a substantial air tight connection so the escape of Serial No. 396,669.

It will be noted that the partition 2 is provided *ith an opening 9 establishing comn'iunication between the compartments and the flue 10 so that the fumes as well as the smoke when the refuse is being burned. will pass to a remote point where it will not be offensive. A second opening 11 adjacent the bottom of the partition also establishes communication between the compartments so that the inclined formation of the bottom of each co1npartment will cause water to flow towards the inlet end 12 of the drain pipe 13 that has its outlet end 14 under a body of water in the trap 15. This trap consists of a container 16 embedded in the earth and covered by the top 17. Each compartment communicates with the outlet 18 that may be closed or partly closed by the door 19 slidably supported by the guide 20. Any suitable form of device may be used for supporting the door in a plurality of adjusted positions so as to regulate the draft, but for the purpose of illustration 1 have shown a chain 21 supporting a pin 22 that may he passed through a hole 23 in the door and into either of the holes 24 in the casing. tached to the door or the chain may he used as a handle.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing it will be apparent that I provide a receptacle of substantial construction for receiving refuse. such as ashes and garbage. and has the additional advantage that the garbage papers and other. combustible material may be burned without an offensive odor arising therefrom.

It is. of course, to be understood that the invention may be constructed in various other manners and the parts associated in different relations and. therefore. 1 do not desire to be limited in any manner except as set forth in the claim hereunto appended.

Having thus described my invention what I claim is:

A device of the class described including a casing, partition dividing the easing into spaced compartments, each compartment having an opening at its upper end. the side edges of said openings having grooves there- A. handle may be atin arranged in step relation, superposed cover plates having their edges mounted in said grooves, said partition having portions thereof cut away at its upper and lower edge providing communicating openings between said compartments at the tops and bottoms thereof, a fine aligned with the opening at the top of the partition to provide communication to the compartments, a drain pipe aligned with the opening at the bottom of 10 the partition to provide communication to the compartment, a trap for receiving liquid from the drain pipe, and the inner surfaces of the bottoms of said compartments inclining towards the opening formed in the bot- 15 tom of the partition.
