Description
P. MON
DUPLEX PEN Sept. '26, 1932.
Filed Jan. 15. 1932 INVENTOR ATTO R N EY Patented Sept. 20, 1932 ,PATVE PETE MON; 0]? WINNEMUCGA, NEVADA DUPLEX' PEN Application filed January 15, 1932. Serial No. 586,871.
The invention relates to a pen for writing purposes and more especially to a duplex pen.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a pen .ofthis character wherein a tube is so cut and formed as to provide double points for writing purposes, one point being rounded and the other flattened, thus it being optional with the user of the pen to adopt either of the pointsfor scroll purposes or for writing, the pen being of novel form. I i
Another object of the invention is the'provision of a pen of this character wherein the double writing point can be readily reversed at the will of the user of the pen, thus increasing the life thereof as in lieu of one point, two points are provided and with the result of increased longevity.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a pen of this character which is extremely simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and eflicient in its purpose, strong, durable, and inexpensive to manufacture. 1
With these and other objects in view, the
invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described in detail, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred embodiment of the invention, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a side elevation of a pen constructed in accordance with the invention, the cap and-barrel of the pen being broken away to show adjuncts. Y
Figure 2 is anjend View of pen.
Figure 3 isan of the pen.
Figure 4: is a side elevation of the duplex point. 1

Figure 6 is a sectional view on the line 6-6 of Figure 4 looking in the direction of the arrows.
one point of the Similar reference characters indicate corend view of the other point NT OFFICE responding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
- Referring to the drawing in detail, A designates the body or barrel of the .pen and B the removable screw cap which is telescopically fitted upon the barrel and detachably threaded therewith.
Removably fitted within the barrel at the,
open inner end thereof is a ferrule 5 having at an intermediate point an rib or abutment shoulder 6 external annular and this ferrule 5 is reversibly telescoped into the open end of the body or barrel A and frictionally held in this engagement therewith.
Fitted in the ferrule 5 is a tube 7 which is of a length to have opposite end portions ex-' tend an equidistance, beyond opposite ends of the ferrule 5 and these extended ends of the tube 7 are split and cut: to form writing pen tips 8 and 19 respectively, the tip 8 beingshaped to provide a rounded point while the tip 9 is shaped to provide a flattened point 11, the tube 7 being rigidly held within the ferrule 5 and on reversal of the ferrule in its telescopic engagement in the barrel A either writing tip 8 or 9 will be located for use.
The
ferrule 5 is limited in its telescopic engagement by the'rib or shoulder 6 abutting the inner open end of said barrel A of the pen.
tips either being selectable Thus it will be seen that the pen in its con- .structioninvolves duplex writing points or at the will of the user of the pen and this is effected by the reversal of the ferrule 5 in its engagement in the inner open endof the barrel A of the pen.
What is claimed is:
termediate external annular abutment and reversibly insertable in the open end of said barrel andfrictionally held, a tube fitted in the ferrule and extended ends thereof, the said ends beyond opposite of the tube being longitudinally split, and tipsformed at the extremities of the tube and shaped to provide fiat and rounded points respectively.
In testimony whereof I a ffix my signature. PETE MON.
