Another object is the arrangement of the sleeve to turn on a pencil, the eraser member being movable back and forth within the sleeve and having a threaded rider which is held against turning in an especially constructed inner sleeve, whereby turning of the main or outer sleeve will cause the rider to move back and forth within the same and the inner sleeve to retract or advance the eraser.
Other objects, advantages and economies peculiar to the invention reside in certain details of construction, as well as the arrangement and mode of operation of the parts of the illustrative arrangements depicted herein in the annexed drawing, in which:

As shown in Figs. 2 and 4, one form of feeding attachment includes an outer barrel or sleeve l5 provided with threading IS on its interior and having its lower end threaded onto a threaded coupling shoulder I! at the upper end of a pencil barrel l8 so that the sleeve is held in substantially immovable relationship with the pencil. A sleeve-like rider I9 is provided with threading 20 engageable with the threading IE on the interior of the sleeve, and an elongated eraser member 2| has its lower end securely fitted into the rider, in the present instance bybeing threaded into the same in engagement with the inner configurations of the threading 20. As a result of this arrangement, the eraser and rider are secured together for joint turning movement, and when the -rider is turned it rides along the threading in the sleeve and moves the eraser in and out, depending upon the direction of turning effort.
Means for turning the rider includes an end sleeve or cap 22 fitted over the upper end of the main barrel or sleeve l5 so as to turn on the latter and having an open-end portion 23 through which the eraser projects. The eraser and turning cap are keyed to turn in unison as a result of the provision of keying formations in the form of substantially flat surfaces 24 withintervening longitudinal ribs 25 extending along the length of the eraser. Onlyone such surface or rib is necessary, but it is preferable in the illusfact that the eraser is free to slide in and out of the cap. As a result of the turning of the eraser, the rider I9 is likewise turned and caused to move up and down within the barrel as a result of the engagement of the threading 20 thereon with the threading l6 on-the inside of the barrel sleeve.
In the modified arrangement of Fig. 5, the main sleeve or barrel 30 is telescoped onto a- I pencil barrel 32, this bore suitably shaped so as to prevent the inner sleeve from turning relative to the pencil. I
An elongated eraser 31 is clamped at its'lower end (Fig. 8) into a cup-shaped rider 38,'this rider having opposite radially extensive ears or wings 39 in which are cut suitably pitched teeth 40 for threadable engagement with the internal threading 33 in the main barrel. The eraser and rider are fitted into the second or inner sleeve, the latter being provided with opposite longitudinally extensive slots 4| in which the threaded or toothed wings 39 work as the rider moves back and forth responsive to turning of the main or outer barrel 30. A suitable end cap 42 is fitted onto the upper end of the barrel for removal when it is desired to use the eraser. Having removed the cap 42, the operator holds the pencil barrel 32 in one hand and turns the eraser barrel30 with the other hand, thus working the rider in one direction or the other to advance or retract the eraser as needed.
The objects and advantages of the invention may be accomplished in modified forms of the specific construction described herein for purposes of illustration, and the invention is not to be limited to such specific forms except as may be provided in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what. I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
1. An eraser feeding mechanism comprising an internally threaded sleeve adapted to be mounted on the end of apencil or the like, a threaded rider arranged for movement back and forth in the sleeve between the ends thereof responsive to turning movement of the rider with respect to the sleeve, an elongated eraser element secured at one of its ends in said rider for movement with the latter in a direction into and out of said sleeve, and a second sleeve member mounted for turning movement at an end of said first-mentioned sleeve and having an opening through which said eraser element projects, said eraser element and said second sleeve being provided with mutually engaging parts keying the same together for joint turning movement such that turning of said second sleeve relative to said firstmentioned sleeve will effect similar movement of the eraser element and rider with a consequent advancing or retracting movement of the eraser element into or out of said first-mentioned sleeve.
