UNEEE PATENT QFFICE.
WILLIAM E. SPARKS, OF NEW BRITAIN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO P. & F. CORBIN, OF SAME'PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN CUPBOARD-CATCHES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 185,26S, dated December 12, 1876; application filed September 22, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, WILLIAM E. SPARKS, of New Britain, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented an Improvement in Cupboard-Catches, of which the following is a specification:
The case is provided with slots for lugs that project from the back of the latch-plate. Such 1atchplate slides outside the case, and is held to placeby the base ofthe turning-knob, the shank of which passes through a boss upon the case, and receives the cams that act upon the lugs aforesaid.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is an elevation at the back of the case, and Fig. 2 is a horizontal section at the line a' This case of the latch is made as a shallow box, a, with an opening at b for the latch end c, which latch end slides beneath the bridlepiece d of the case. The plate c' of the latch c is slotted, and it is guided by a boss upon the case a, and held in place by the inner` end of the knob f, which projects over the edges of the plate c' at the slot. The shank of the knob j' passes through the boss and case a,
and receives the cams h. There are two lugs, it', upon the back of the latch-plate c', which lugs project through slots in the case a, and the cams h act against these lugs in withdrawing 'the latch. The back part of the latchhead c is hook-shaped, to receive one eudof the wire spring l, which is held in place by a coil around the stud n. The keeper mis of ordinary character.
This cupboard-catch is very strong, durable, and cheap to construct, and not liable to get out of order.
I claim as my invention- The slotted latch-plate c', sliding upon the surface of the case a, and having lugs i passing through slots in the case a, in combination with the knob f, that retains the plate c in place, and the cams h and spring l within the case a, substantially as set forth.
Signed by me this 18th day of September, 1876.
WILLIAM E. SPARKS.
