Description

REBECC'ASIDD'ALL. HAND-PROTECTORS FOR BROOM-HANDLES.
N0 184,913, .Patenned.Nov.28,1876-.
ATTORN EYS.
PATENT OFFICE.
REBECCA SIDDALL, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OIF COLUMBIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN HAND-PROTECTORS FOR BROOM-HANDLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 184,918, dated November 28, 1876; application iled October 26, 1876.
To all 'whom fit may concern:
Be it known that I, REBECCA SIDDALL, of Washington, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hand-Protector for Brooms; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists inthe construction and arrangement of a hand-protector for brooms, handles, and other analogous devices, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled inthe art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, refer ring to the annexed drawing, in Which- Figure 1 is a side View of a broom embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective view of the hand-protector detached.
A represents an ordinary broom, with handle B. C represents a sleeve or tube of suitable dimensions, made of rubber or other suitable elastic or iiexible material, which sleeve is placed on the broom-handle B, and capable of being adjusted up and down on the same, while it is held by friction at any point on the handle Where it vmay be placed; D represents a cap o r sleeve closed at one end, also made of rubber or other suitable elastic or flexible material, to be placed upon the end of the broom-handle B.
The object of this invention is to form a protector to prevent the' blistering or otherwise injuring the hands of the person using the broom, and the sleeve being movable upon the broom-handle, it can be adjusted to suit the operator.
I do not confine myself to any particular shape ofthe hand-protector, nor to any mate- 'rial of which it may be made, only so that it shall form elastic or flexible handhelds on the broom.
My invention may be applied to other analogons devices as Well ason a broom-handle. When the broom is worn out, the protector can be applied on another broom.
Having thus fully described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A broom-handle, or other analogous device, provided with a detachable and adjustable rubber sleeve, C, for the purpose set forth. I
2. The cap D and sleeve C, applied. to a broom-handle or other analogous device, as herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 25th day of October, 1876.
REBECCA SIDDALL.
