ERASER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 415,377, dated November 19, 1889.
Application iiled September 1l, 1889. Serial No. 323,639. (No model.)
To all wwm it may concern.-
Be it known that I, IIEYwooD C. BRoUN, of Brooklyn, in the county ofKings and State ot' New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Erasers, of which the following is a specification.
My improvement relates to erasers made of india-rubber, employed to erase pencil-marks.
I will describe in detail an eraser embodying my improvement, and then point out the novel features in claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of an eraser embodying my improvement. Fig. 2 is aNertical section thereof.
Similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in both the iigures.
A designates an eraser made of india-rubber. With this eraser I combine a Weight B, which weight is such that when the eraser is used to erase pencil-marks it will not be necessary to apply pressure by hand in order to facilitate the erasure of the marks, as the combined weight of the eraser and the weight B will furnish su icient pressure for this purpose.
In the example of my improvement shown the weight B is shown as embedded in the rubber eraser, and it will be preferably made of metal. The metal may be thus placed within the eraser when the rubber is cast or molded. I have shown a handle C extending from the weight B t0 the exterior of the eraser. Under certain circumstances the weight B might be arranged upon the top of the eraser and secured thereto in any suitable manner. The eraser, owing` to this weight, is also serviceable as a paper-weight.
It will be seen that by my improvement the manual labor necessary in the manipulation of an india-rubber eraser, owing to the pressure necessary to be exerted, is avoided, the only motion essential to the manipulation of the eraser being a movement from side to side over the pencil-marks.
What I claim las my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. An india-rubber eraser having a metallic weight embedded therein, substantially as specied.
2. An india-rubber eraser having a metallic Weight embedded therein and a handle connected with the weight, substantially as specied.
