UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM. ENGLAND, or GALVESTON, TEXAS.
B LACKlNG-BRUSH.
sPncrrieAnoN forming part of Letters Patent No. 367,379, dated August 2,1887.
' Application filed June 25, 1886. Serial No. 206,193. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM ENGLAND, of Galveston,in the county ofGalveston and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Improvement'in Blacking-Brushes, which improvement is fully set forth in the following" side view, partly in section, ofa modificationv thereof.
My invention relates to an improvement in boot-blacking brushes so disposed that fluid blacking may be used; and to this end I provide a reservoir at one end with a forwardlyprojecting tube or nozzletherefrom, the said reservoir having a disk at one side,so that when pressed the liquid will be forced through the nozzle upon the boot,-allof which will now be set forth in detail.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents the wood part of an ordinary blaekingbrush, provided at its upper part rearwardly with a reservoir, B, and having on its under part the usual polishing-bristles, a. This reservoir is provided forwardly with a tube or nozzle, 0, secured in position upon the back of the wooden part of the brush by means of staples D. This nozzle is somewhat curved near its forward end, so as to be disposed laterally and extend past the daubing-bristles E and just beyond the forward edge of the wooden part. This reservoir B is attached externally upon the back of the wood part A of the brush by means of screws through lugs F in the peripheryof the said reservoir. Centrally the upper face,'G, of the said reservoir is provided with a cap, H, so disposed as to be-reinovable to permit of the fluidblacking being put into the said reservoir. I v
The forward end of the nozzle 0 is provided with ametal cap such as shown in Fig. 2, to prevent the escape of the blacking from the reservoir when using the brush, and also for the purpose of preventing any evaporation of the'blaoking-fluid. The disk G is made somewhat flexible, so that when the central part of the disk is pressed, so as to be concave by 21%, one forward and one rearward. When forming the device in this way,it is necessary to provide a stem, I, centrally over the reser-- voir, with a button at the upper end projecting 6 through the handle. This enables the operator to press down upon the reservoir even if placed-below the'wooden part of the brush.
Although usually I design to simply use the reservoir on a brush other than those used for 0 polishing purposes, as will more readily be noticed by referring to Fig. 2, yet, as shown in Fig. 1, it will be obvious that this reservoir may be attached to any form of brush, either polishing orotherwise, and be equally effective. 7
I am aware of Patent No. 136,289, and do not claim the construction of parts or their combination as therein shown.
Having described myinvention, what I claim as new is- A blacking-brush of ordinary construction, provided with DOIlSilillg-bllStlGS on its under part and daubing-bristles on its back, and ablacking-rcservoir, B, secured externally upon the back and having a flexible disk-cover, pro- 8 vided with a cap, H, and attached to it a tube, 0, extending forwardly beyond the wooden part of the'br ush and properly secured upon the surface of the back, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand, this 19th day of April, 1886, in the presence of witnesses.
\VILLIAM ENGLAND.
