soAP-FEEDING ATTACHMENT `Fon BRUSHES.
SPECIFICATION forming-part of Letters Patent N O. 727,780, dated May 12, 1903.
Application iiled July 12, 1902. Serial No. 115.270. (No model.)
T0 @il whom it may concern: l
Be it known that I, JOHN C. GABEL, Jr., a
citizen of the UnitedV States,` residing at Ouar-Y ga, in the county of Iroquoisand State Vof Illinois, have invented certain'newand useful' out the diierent views of the drawings.v
Improvementsin Soap-Feeding Attachments for Brushes, of which the following is a speci-y fication.
This invention relates to improvements in an attachment to be used for supplying soap to the bristles of brushes, andiwhile it -is more especially intended Ato be used onv shavingbrushes, yet it is applicable to tooth-brushes, scrub brushes, bath brushes, and various other kinds; and it consists in certain peculiarities of the construction, novel arrangement, and operation of the various parts thereof, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth and specifically claimed.
The object of my invention is to provide an attachment for holdingl and feeding or Vsupplying soap to the bristles of the brush in such a manner that the soap will not come in contact with the hand of the use, and which attachment shall be simple and inexpensive in construction, strong, durable, and effective in operation.
Another obj ect of the invention is to so construct the device that when any one of its parts becomes defective or worn it can be replaced by a new or perfect one.
Still another object of the invention is to afford means for cutting uand conveying or forcing the soap to the bristles.
Other obj ects and advantages of the invention Will be disclosedin the su bjoined description and explanation.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention pertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe it, referring to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure lis a central vertical sectional view through a 'shaving-brush embodying my in# vention. Fig.y 2 is a View in side elevation, showing the attachment appliedto an'ord'inary scrub-brush. Fig. 3 is a plan view .taken on line 3 3 of Fig. l, showing the bristle-holder and soap-supplying tube. Fig. 4 is atop plan view of the funnel-shaped tube and its knife or cutter. Fig. 5 is a detached perspective view of the iiexible tube and its coupling.
ings.
Fig. 6 is a detached verticalsectional View of the funnel-shaped tube, showing the construc- *tin thereof; and Figx' is a plan View of the same. I l
Similar letters refer to like parts through- A represents the bristle-holder, which is preferably cylindrical and has secu red therein in any suitable manner a series of bristles a, of any desired material. The upper portion of the holder A is provided with a central screw-threaded opening a' to engage eX- ternal screw-threads onthe cylindrical piece B, which has at its upper enda'n annular iiange b, provided on Vits exterior with screwthreads to engage internal screw-threads on the soap-holder C,'which has at'its upper end an annular flangec, whichis' preferably milled, as shown, soA that it may be easily turned. The upper inner portionof the piece -.B, which connects the soap-holder C andthe bristle or brush holder A, is internally screwthreaded to engage the upper portion of the conveyer-tube D, `which is preferably funend an upwardly-'curved blade d, which extends across the mouth or upper end of said tube. The lower end of the conveyer-tube D fits in the upper end of the dischargingnipple lE,which is embedded in or surrounded by the bristles'o. and has at its upper-end an annular iange e to rest on the top of the bristles, as is clearly shown in Fig. l of the draw- The lower end of the nipple E extends to near the lower surface of the bristle or Vnel-shaped, as shown, and has at its upper brush holder A and is externally screwthreaded to receive the screw-threaded couplingfon`the flexible tube F, which is provided with a series of perforations f and has its free end 'provided with slits f2, as shown,
so as to prevent it being uncomfortablewhe'n pressed against the face of the user and also for the purpose of distributing the soap or lather through the bristles.
In Figs. 6 and 7 of the drawingsl have may use the conveyer-tube without the blade (l or may use the said blade and tube Without the conveyer.
In Fig. 2 of the drawings I have shown the attachment applied to an ordinary scrubbrush, in which case the piece A acts as a holder for the brush-blocklll, as Well as for a portion of the bristles of the brush.
From the foregoing and by reference to the drawings it will be seen and clearly understood that by placing a quantity of soap I in' the soap-holder C and screwing the latter down on the connecting-piece B the soap will be cut or shaved bythe blade d and will pass into the conveyer-tube D and from thence through the nipple E and flexible tube F, when used, to the bristles. By turning the soap-holder C farther down on the connecting-piece it is evident that the conveyer G, by reason of its spiral blades and the pressure of the soap thereon, will force the cut portions through the discharging-nipple,thus rendering the action or operation ot` the device positive. When the attachment is applied to an ordinary scrub-brush, as well as a shaving-brush, it is obvious that the soap will be protected from the hand of theuser and that the attachment Will form a convenient handle for using the brush, and as a small quantity of the soap only is exposed to the action of lthe water used to make the lather it will not unnecessarily be wasted.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The combination with the bristle or brush holder, of a connecting-piece secured to its upper portion, a soap-holder adjustably secured on the upper end of the connectingpiece,a discharging-nipple located in the bristle or brush holder, a conveyer-tube located in the connecting-piece and having means to cu t the soap, substantially as described.
2. The combination with the bristle or brush holder, of a connecting-piecesecured to its upper portion and havingits upper end externally screw-threaded, a soap-holder having internal screw-threads and secured on the upper end of the connecting-piece, a discharging-nipple located in the bristle or brush holder, a conveyer-tube located in the connecting-piece, a transverse blade on the upper end of the conveyer-piece and a gimlet-shaped conveyer within the conveyertube below said blade, substantially as described.
3. The combination with the bristle or brush holder, of a connecting-piece secured to its upper portion and havingits upper end externallyscrew-threaded, a soap-holder provided with internal screw-threads and secured on the upper end of the connectingpiece,a discharging-nipple located in the bris- Ile or brush holder, a flexible perforated tube on the lower end of the nipple, a conveyertube located in the connecting-piece, a blade secured across the upperend of the conveyertube, and a gimlet-shaped conveyer located in said tube below the blade, substantially as described.
