- Brushes, of which the following is a speciiication.
This invention relates to brushes and 'more particularly to fountain brushes, and
has for its object to provide a fountain brush foi use in blacking shoes etc., which will be simple in arrangement and structure, while being ellicient and easily operated.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description and it will be understood that changes in the speci'lic structure shown and described may be inade within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit of the invention.
.in the drawings forming a portion of this specification, and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, Figure 1 is an elevational view of the )resent brush Fie. 2 is a to lan Fie. 3 is 1 Pl 7 n?) a front elevation; liig. el is a ngitudinal section taken vertically on line 4 4 of Fig. 3; Fig. 5 is a horizontal section through the feed tube and reservoir on line 5 5 of-Fig. 1.
Referring now to the drawings, Ithe present invention comprises a polishing brush 6 including the usual back 7, to which the bristles 8 are secured.
A horizontally extending cylindrical reservoir 9 is-n'iounted upon the back 7, this reservoir being supported by front and rear brackets 1() and 11 respectively. The front bracket 10 consists of an intermediate portion A secured upon the back 7 and having an upwardly extending rearward. portion B to which the forward end of the reservoir 9 is secured. The bracket l() also includes an upwardly and forwardly inclined forward portion C, to which a daubing brush 12 is securfcd. As will be readily understood, the bracket l() may be formed of a piece of i'netal bciit into the required forni. The dauber 12 includes' aback 13 of the usual type, which is provided witli'a central opening .14 registering with an opening 15 formed in the forward portion C of the bracket 10, which is secured against the outer face ol' the back 13.
A horizontally extending tube 16 is secured at its forward ond within the opening' l5, and has its rearward end secured in an opening 1T l'oiiiied iii the forward end of the reservoir 9. The tube 16 is thus a feed tube, for the conduction of blaclring from the reservoir to the daubcr.
A forwardly extending sleeve 18 is secured to the forward end of the reservoir and an opening 9 is formed thrbugh this end of the reservoir conoentrically with and within the inclosure of the sleeve 18. 2" A packing gland 19 is orovided at the outer end of the sleeve, and s idably engaged through the cap 19 of this land'and within the opening 9', there is a rou 20, having its inner end portion turned downwardly as shown at 21. Secured to this downwardly turned portion 21, there is a conicalvalve 22., which is disposed to enter and close'the inner end of the feed tube 16, and the rod 20 is held normally with the valve in closed position by means of a spring 23 engaged therearoundiwithin the sleeve 18 and bearing at one end against the forward end of the reservoir 9, and at the other end against a Harige, 2a carried by the rod 20.
t its forward end, the rod 20 is provided with a finger piece 25, as shown.
' Frein the drawings, it will be seen that the reservoir 9 is disposed to for'in a handle, and that the finger niece 25 may be engaged by the forefinger of a hand grasping the handle, to unseat the valve 22. the reservoir. 9 is provided with a removable screw cap 26, so that the blacking may be easily introduced into the reservoir.
"W hat is claimed is:
1. The combination with a brush of a bracket mounted upon the forward portion thereof, said bracket includ'i g an attaching portion, an yupwardly oxtendrilng vertical portion at the 'rear of the attaching portion, and an upwardly and forwardly inclined portion at the forward end of the said attaching portion, a second bracket secured to the brush rearwardly` of the first named bracket, a reservoir inountedupon the verticalk ortion of the first named portion and upon t e second bracket and extending therebetween to forni a handle, a dauber secured to the outer face of the upwardly and forwardly inclined portion of the 'first nanied bracket, a supply tube conn'nunicating Iwith the forward end of the reservoir and arranged to deliver blacking to the dauber, and la valve for the tube,
2. A fountain lilac-king brush comprising a brush proper, a bracket secured rupon the forward portion ol" said brush and including l the horizont-al intermediate portion and an The rearward end ofh upwardly and forwardly inclined forward -portion, said bracket also including a vertibracket and upon the second named bracket, l
said reservoir lying in spaced relation to the brush* roper to form a handle, a danber securedto, the forward space of the forward portionof the first named bracket, a tube communicating with the forward end of the reservoir and with the danber, a forwardlyT extending sleeve secured to the forward end l of the reservoir and disposed above the tube, l a valve rod slidably arranged within the sleeve, the forward end of the valve rod having a frigenpiece, the valve rod havin 'a downw ly turned portion arranged wit 'n the reservoir and in line with the tube, a valve carried. by the downwardl turned i portion and arranged to close the inner end of the tube, and 'means for .operatinfthe valve.
in testimony whereof lie aHiXes his signature, in presence of two witnesses.
