Description

0. I. TAYLOR &- T. H. PATTERSON;
PACKAGE BANDS. No. 184,118..
- j Patented. Now 711816.
ATTUBNEY NI'IED STATES PATENT OFFICE;
OWEN I. TAYLOR AND THOMAS PATTERSON, OF SAGINAW, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN PACKAGE-BANDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 184,118, dated November 7, 1876; application filed May 1, 1676.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, OWEN I. TAYLOR and Tiles. H. PATTERSON, of Saginaw city, in the county of Saginaw and State of Michigan, have invented a new and Improved Package- Band, of which the following is a specification V Our invention consists of a light, thin piece of sheet metal, with two loops, in which two elastic strips or hands are attached at ninety degrees to each other, and with two books for the other ends of said bands, to be connected to it after passing around the packageone crosswise and the other lengthwisethe ends of the bands to be connected by said hooks being provided with a loop of metal adapted for readily hooking on. The band is intended for tying up small packages of letters and other papers, and other small articles, being a substitute for strings, which, being wasted, are more expensive, and they cut and injure the packages, which these bands avoid.
Figure l is a plan view of a package of letters fastened with our improved band. Fig. 2 is a section on line 00 x,- and Fig.3 is' a plan of a band, the connecting-plate of which differs a little in form from the other.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is a connecting-plate of thin sheet metal, having two'loops, B, in the edges at right angles to each other, in which the elastic straps O are fastened at one end. D represents hooks in the opposite edge of the piece A, and E represents loops of metal attached to the free ends of the bands for hooking onto the connecting-plate, as clearly shown. Instead of making the hooks on the connecting-plate,
they maybe made on the loops E and holes F.
