JUG CARRIER.

W/TNESSES lNVENTOl? UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FREDERICK O. BALOH, OF NEILLSVILLE, WISCONSIN, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF TO FREDERICK HUNTZIOKER, OF SAME PLACE.
JUG-CARRIER.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 626,130, dated May 30, 1899. Application filed January 28,1899. 5 ml N 703,677. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK O. BALCH, residing at Neillsville, in the county of Clark and State of Wisconsin, have made certain new and useful Improvements in J ug-Carriers, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification.
My invention is in the nature of a handle attachment readily applicable to jugs to enable the same to be conveniently carried in the hand.
The invention consists in certain novel constructions and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of my improved carrier as in use. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the carrier shown in Fig. 1. Fig 2 is a detail view illustrating the slide.
The carrier shown in Figs. 1 and 2 is composed of the handle-bar A, the hanger-rods B B, depending from the lower end thereof, and the band 0, carried by the lower ends of the hanger-rods and adapted to encircle and clasp the neck of the jug beneath the shoulder usually formed thereon.
The band C is preferably of sheet metal, whose ends are adapted to be adjustably con nected, preferably, by providing a slot 0 near one end of the band and by forming the other end of the band into a tongue, which may be passed through such slot and then bent upon itself to secure the band upon the neck. By this means the band may be readily adjusted to fit jugs of different sizes and can be conveniently fastened upon any one of such jugs.
One of the hanger-rods Bis secured directly to the band C, while the rod B is provided with a loop b,which is slidable along the band C, so it can be adjusted to a position diametrically opposite the rod B in the different adjustments of the band C. This will be readily understood from Fig. 2, inwhich I show the carrier detached from the jug.
In forming the band C, I prefer to make it of a strip of sheet metal which tapers gradually from end to end, thus affording a wide end of the strip in which the slot 0 may be cut and narrowing the opposite end of the band to form a tongue, which will properly enter the said slot. I also prefer to connect the rod B with the band C by simply hooking its lower end b through an opening in the band and to make the loop I) of a short strip of sheet metal looped around the band and having its ends engaged by a hook on the lower end of the rod B, such hook passing through coincident openings formed near the ends of the short loop-band, as shown in Fig.2.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Pat ent, is'
1. A jug-carrier composed of the band formed of a strip of metal tapering or narrowing from one end toward the other and provided near its wider end with a slot and having its other end adapted to pass through said slot whereby the band may be clasped upon and adjusted to fit jug-necks of different sizes, the handle-bar and the hanger-rod, and a loop-plate strip slidable along the band and forming the connection therewith of one of the hanger-rods all substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. A j u g-carrier composed of the band adjustable whereby it may be clasped uponjugnecks of different sizes the hanger-rods connected with said band, one of said rods havin g a sliding connection with the band whereby it may be adjusted to correspond with the adjustment of the band substantially as set forth.
3. A jug-carrier composed of the band ad justable whereby it may be clasped upon necks of difierent sizes, the handle, and the hanger-rods one of which has a loop connection slidable along the band substantially as set forth.
