Description

J. sum, Jr. SHOW-CASES.
Pazen'zea Sept. 26, 1876.
WITNESSES I I Attorney N PETERS, PHOTO-LITHOGRAPHE UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
JOHN STARR, JR., OF HUNTINGTON, WEST VIRGINIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN SHOW-CASES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 182,720, dated September 26,1876; application filed August 3, 1876. i
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN STARR, Jr., of city of Huntington, ingthecounty of Cabell and State of West Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Revolving or Stationary Show-Case for the display of embroideries, laces, 850.; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a show-case for the display of embroidery, laces, ribbons,
and other articles that can be Wound on rollers, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section of the same, looking upward.
The frame of my show-case is composed of a series of posts, A Aone at each anglea bottom, B, and a top, 0, into which the posts are to be securely fastened. These posts are bored, on both sides, at suitable distances apart, to receive the journals of a series of rollers, D D, on each side of the case, the distances between said holes being determined by the size of the rollers and the quantity of goods to be wound upon them. From the face of the posts there is an inclined saw-cut, a, running into each hole, toallow the rollers to be taken out. Each side of the case is provided with a glass door, G, a suitabledistanoe from, and outside of, the rollers, said doors being hinged to the top and bottom, and closing against each other. Through the top 0 passes a rod, 1), with a knob or thumb-piece, E, on its upper end. Upon this rod, and be-' low the top O, is keyed a spider or disk, H, connected by rods d d with the doors G. By this means all the doors are opened and closed simultaneously, and no door can be opened or closed without the others. The bottom B of the case is provided with a trunnion, I, upon which the case revolves, so that the goods can be seen on all sides by turning the case upon this center.
By the construction of this show-case the goods are kept clean, and the purchaser can see the goods and prices of the same, and select such as are wanted without handling them over and over, as is usually done when such goods are gathered around a card, and kept in a drawer or box. 4
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- Y The combination of the frame AB 0, rollers v D, doors Gr, rod 1) with thumb-piece E, and disk or spider H, and the connecting-rods d d, all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
