JOHN N. LEONARD, OF \VAREHOUSE POINT, OOXNEOTIOUT.
DISPLAY-CASE FOR GOODS.
QPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 320,566, dated June 23, 1885.
Application filed November 8, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concerni Be it known that I, JOHN N. LEONARD, of Warehouse Point, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display- Cases for Goods, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in drawer-cases for holding and displaying spool silk, cotton, and other similar goods, the object being to provide a case of this description which, in addition to its improved construction,'which conduccs to the convenient storage and display of the goods which it contains, is uncommonly ornamental, and serves other useful purposes.
In the drawings forming part ofthis specification, Figure 1 isa perspective ofa displaycase embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 is a transverse section on line x 00, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a vertical section on lincg y, Fig. 2. Figs. 4 and 5 are detail views.
In the drawings, a is the rectangular case. b are plain drawers. 0 are spool-drawers. d are mirrors. 6 is a supporting post or spindle. fis a post-stand. v is a bearing for pivot c.
The case a is divided into four drawer-receiving compartments, as shown in Fig. 2, each of which compartments extends from the bottom to the top of the interior of the case, andis of a width a little less than one-half of the width of the case, so that the drawers 0 and!) may be made of a greaterlength than they would necessarily be if the extent of their movement were limited to the space between the side of the case and the center chamber around the spindle or post 0.
On the inside of the top of case a is fixed a step or bearing, 1), to receive the upper end of the post 6, said step being located centrally at the end of the chamber in the case between the sides of the rear parts of the drawers, as seen in Fig. 2. The bottom of the case a is perforated centrally 'to allow of passing the post into said chamber, and the hole in the bottom is so nearly of the same diameter as the post that the case is held steady thereon, and when it is revolved it has no lateral motion.
The post 6 is firmly secured in the standf,
and when the case is completely mounted, as I and hides the stand f from of the ends of the series of drawers 0 and b has its central portion provided with a mirror, (Z, leaving space at each end of the latter for panels, upon which any desired lettering may be placed. r
The drawers 0 are constructed with glass fronts and with pins set either straight or inclined in the bottom of the drawer, on which the spools of silk are placed, as shown in Fig. The drawers 1) are ordinary plain ones. The drawers care constructed substantially as shown in my Letters Patent of October 22, 1872; butit is obvious that such interior fittings are not essential to this case and its drawers.
The display-case constructed and arranged as described makes a convenient and roomy receptacle forholding and showing goods, is very easily turned to bring either the drawers or mirrorswhere the former may be opened or the latter looked into, and presents a succession of brilliant and ornamental mirrors onits sides while rotating.
1 am aware that rotating rectangular book cases or stands have been made with shelves extending from the sides past the central standard; also, that ornamental mirrors arecommon in many styles offurniture. I make no broad claim to such devices.
\Vhat I claim as my invention is- The herein-described rotating-- display-ease for goods, consisting of rectangular case a, having a series of drawers, b, on each face thereof, and at one side of the central line of the case, said drawers being of less than half the width of the case, and extending back at the rear beyond the central line of the case when closed, and a mirror, (I, in each face of the case at the side of and arranged substantially as shown and described.
JOHR N. LEONARD.
In presence of ROM. M. FRYER, B. F. MoRsnLL.
