The invention relates to ygarters, and is especially directed to the cast-off fastener associated therewith The invention is particularly applicable' to the'type ofy garter for vmounted upon a slotted plate, which plate is secured to the pad by stitching. The post is z adapted to cooperate with a metal loop member secured to the freeend of the leg band. The pad is `.frequently formedr with a leather front face,y a fabric back 'face with aL layer or layers of suitable material interposed between said front and -back face. "These several layers are all stitched together and the'post member is then stitched through allthelayers.V
f The present invention comprises :a loop member in the form of ahorse-shoe, having two prongs which E pass throughthe front layer androne or more intermediate layers of kthe pad formationandthen cooperate and clench with a slotted n plate positioned between certain of said layers, so that said loop ymember is firmly clamped y'with two or more layers 'of the pad formation leaving one or more vinner or under layers unimpaired,'that KVmerely yA way of example,y a suitable yemis having no metal projecting therethrough. Referring to thefdrawings which illustrate bodiment'l of the invention r-,
' still larger scale, .j 1
. throughout the several views. y
In accordance with thepresent invention,- a a yloop memberis provided, preferably in Fig. 1 is an elevation. Fig. 2 isa fragmentarysection Scale. Y f
Figs. 3 andl are on enlarged detailsin perspective on ay -Similar numerals 'refer to similar parts the form of a horseshoe having its axis slightly inclined tothe horizontal, the openend yor heel ofwhich is directedtowardthe edge or side of the pad`8 to which the leg band k9 is 1930.44 seria; 116,471,659;
:permanently secured.k This membieriiisprovidedrwithy twopoints or prongs 10 extend fing" from the [outside margins thereof and in 4close proximity with the heel. These points are bent at right angles to thegeneral: plane Aof the member .7 andare insertedthrough the leather `layerr11`,.forming thefront face of Vthe ypad, or'fthey `may project through this front layerand the nextl adjacent layer 12.
Ay thinv metal platev 13 is provided with'slot's 14 registering with the said points or prongs `10 for receiving the points as they project through the layer orlayers. They pointsare then'bent rover into thelplane of the plate and y-thusclinched therewith. v The lplate l13 is preferably provided-witha depressed portion "15 for receiving the points 10 whenbent over ory clenched;V After which theothe'r Elayers ofthe pad are assembledandlstitched together. A`Itishould jalso' benotedlthat the portions ofthe loop ymemberadjacentthe .points and theheel, are brought into .close lcontactwith theY front' surface of layer 11v of Uthe pad, whilethe balance of the loop formation is slightly raised above fsaidY surface and.' extends'forwardly in vai'plane approximately parallel thereto. f
.The other element'of the cast-.olf'comprises .a slotted member y16 secured by an adjustable` loopl?y formed in the freeend offthe leg 'band 9.` "This slotted,memberhowever"fin-y 'stead of having a post-engaging loop, iis pro- ,videdy with a kh'ooliformation 181 for engagingV the'nslightly raised Vportion 19 ofthe loop' or 'horse-shoe' formation 7.y Thishooklis also provided with an offset yor shoulder; as "at'2`0, in ,ordertoireducethe danger of accidental disengagement from the loop or horse-shoe member It will thus be seen that the loop or horseshoe member is easily and securely attached to the pad, without the expensive process of stitching5 is entirely covered on the underside thereof by. theinner or under layer or 95 layers 21, of the pad andthat its front curved formation allows the hook 18 of the other element'to swing in a substantial arc in order to permit the garter to assume the desired direction of set. The connecting elements lie Hatter upon the leg and are much easier to manipulate.
What I claim is :-v Y l. A garter comprising a pad', a leg band having one end permanently secured thereto,`
disengageable-connecting elements, comprising a hook member secured to theffree .end of the leg band, a loop element of horse-shoe formation and a slotted plate, the loop ele-y ment provided with points near the heelV Y thereof adapted to pass through a pad layer -a stocking fclasp also ysecured thereto, disand through the slots in the plate and clench i therewith.
having one end permanently secured thereto,
engageable connecting elements, comprising a hook member secured to the free end of the Y i leg band, a loop element of horse-shoe formation and ai slotted plate, the loop element provided with lpoints near the heel thereof adapted to pass through certain layers of the pad, and through the slots inthe' plate and clench therewith, the said slotted plate having a depressed portion between theV slots for receiving the points when clenched therewith.
