STATES PATENT OFFICE This invention relates to locks and particularly to an improved set of locking plates whereby the lock made jimmy-proof. The object of the device which may forms of locks and ping parts designed of a tool for prying the door open or moving any part of the lock to an inoperative posi tion.
A further object of the invention is to provide a pair of coacting plates, one being adapted to be mounted on a door and the otheron a amb and the parts so interlocked that the jamb plate ing parts of the door plate and the door plate in turn will interloc prevent any separ plates.
ing the construction Figure 2 is a fragmentary sectional view through Flgure 1 on line 2-2.
ure 2 on line 3-3;
Figure 4: is a view similar, to Figure 3 encept that the door plate has been shown in position thereon;
Figure 5 is a view similar to Figure 1 but showing .a slight mo Figure 6 is a side elevation of part of the locking jamb plate shown in Figure 5.
Referring to the by numerals, l'indicates a door, 2 a jamb, 3 a conventional lock operated by suitable lockoperating mechanism 4: of well known type secured in place by means. On jamb 2 an extension 6 provi ture for receiving a plate 7 is mounted on door 1, said door plate being provided with a suitable boss for hold ing the outer part 0 in place.

formed in section 10 as shown in Figure 1 so (1) as to accommodate the ears or projections 13 will overlap the operatk with the jamb plate to ation between the two Figure 8 is a sectional view through Figand 1 1 of plate 5. These ears are preferably integral with the transverse section 15 of plate 5 as shown in Figure 1. An upstanding c section 16 extends for the full length of sec- 5 tion 15 and is provided with a flange 17 extending for a full length of section 16, said flange overlapping the thickened portion 9. This will positively prevent a jimmy from being forced between the tions of plates 5 and 7. By the arrangement of section 16 and flange 17 a recess 18-is presented as shown in Figure 2, said recess bein g adapted to accommodate the thickened portion or bar 9 while the lugs 13 and 14 extend T through the notches 11 and the parts together in such cannot be forced apart. that the plates 5 and 7 are interlocked so that they cannot be forced apart and that any 81) interlocked por- 1 a 12, thus locking a way that they It will be noted prying thereon attempting to force them dified structure;

When the structure in Figure 5 is to be used, the plate 5 is cut off at the outer edge of the jamb 2 and a second plate 5 placed thereon, said second plate having an ear 19 and adapted to re W ceive the swinging locking member 20. In this form of invention the plates 5 and 5 are both provided with openings 21 and 22 so as to receive a night latch and also a permaaffect the retaining in position.
From this it will be seen that the flange from the keeper of any lock now on the market may be riveted onto plate 5, so that the jimmy-proof features of the present invention may be secured for all looks.
What I claim is l. A pair of locking jamb plate and a door their point of contact interlocking projections so that when the jalnb plate is in contact with the door plate the plates cannot be forced apart except in one direction, the interlocking projection on the jamb plate having an extending portion provided with a flange overlapping the projections on said door plate.
2. A pair of locking plates comprising a door plate and a jamb plate, said door plate having a notched extension said jamb plate being formed with a section provided with a pair of ears fitting into the notches of said notched extension and a flange overlapping said notch and the edge of said jamb plate.
3. A pair of locking plates of the character described, comprising a door plate and a jamb plate, said door plate having an extension provid d with a pair of notches and a thickened portion adjacent said notches extending for the full width of the door plate, said jamb plate having a section fitting over part of the door plate and provided with a pair of ears fitting into ,said notches and with a com bined upstanding section and flange overlapping said thickened portion of plate.
4. The combination with a door jamb and a door of a pair of interlocking plates coacting with said door and door jamb, said locking plates comprising a door plate and a jamb plate, said jamb plate having an opening for receiving the bolt of a lock and at the opposite end an upstanding section merging into an overhanging shoulder portion and into a pair of cars, said provided with the aperturedextension adapted to overlap the section of said jam-b plate and accommodate the ears of said jamb plate, said door plate being also provided with a thickened portion extending for full length and fitting into said overhanging shoulder portion.
5. A pair of locking plates of the character described comprising a door plate and a jamb plate, said door plat-e having an extension provided with a pair of notches, said jamb plate having a section fitting over part of the door plate and provided with a pair of cars fitting into said notches and with a combined plates comprising a plate, said plates at being formed with upstanding section and flange overlapping.
the portion of the door plate carrying said notches.
6. A pair of locking plates of the character described comprising a door plate'and a jamb plate, said door plate having an extension provided with a pair of notches, a thickened portion spaced from the edge of said door plate and forming an upstanding flange extending from near one of said notches tonear the other notch, said amb plate having a section fitting over part of the door plate and said door door plate being York this 2lst day
