" ICO at proper points behind the inner end of the slide bolt 13, so that when the cam block 15, is disposed as shown in Fig. 5, the bolt named will be permitted to move rearwardly, and if the swell on said cam block is forwardly adjusted, as represented in Fig. 6, the slide block will be locked in a projected condition. For the convenient manipulation of the cam block 15, a notched indentation is produced in the end of one of its journal studs to receive the end of a key 15", as represented in Fig. 5, so that the application of the key and its partial rotation will adjustthe cam block as required, either to lock or release the bolt 13.
The portion of the device that is provided to aid in sustaining the sash, which has been already mentioned, consists of a case 16, that r is formed substantially like the case 12, and
of similar dimensions, a slide bolt 13 being located within said case 16 and is the duplicate of the slide bolt in the sash locking portion of the improvement. I

In order to permit an increase in, the tensional force of the spring 17, that is located on the slide bolt 13 in the case 16, spaced slots are oppositely formed in the case, as shown at 1b in Figs. 2 and 3, which the ears 16 may be located in, it being evident that the location of the wall 16 nearer the outer when this is desired, there are opposite recesses or socket holes formed in the side edges of the sash, such as 10, of a suitable size to receive the cases 12 and 16 of the sash-supporting and locking devices, which should closely fit in these holes.
To facilitate the use of 'the key 15", there should be a slot of proper size cut in the side rail of the window sash at a point that will expose the notched end of the stud on the cam, block of the sash look, as shown in Fig. 5, which slot and stud should be located on the inner side of the window, an escutcheon plate 15 being secured over the key slot to form a neat finish for the same.
As before explained, the detent plates 11 are located at opposite points in the stiles of the window casement, they being embedded so as not to obstruct the free sliding movement of the-sash, and for the correct operation of the sash supporting and locking devices, the cases that contain the working parts of the same should be introduced within the side bars-of the sash at such points as will permit the outer ends of the slide bolts 13 to enter the curve-bottomed recesses or cavities in the dotent plates, when the upper and lower sashes them to he slid and located at difierent points of open adjustment, or to completely close them, and it is' evident that by a manipulation of the key-15', the slide bolt of the sash lock maybe secured so as to prevent it from retracting,and thus lock the window sash either open or closed.
In Fig. 7, there is a. recessed locking disk 18 shown, which is designed in some cases to take the place pf the detent plates 11, as these disks are more easily inserted in window casements that are in use in houses. Such disks are then of service to permit the convenient application of the improvements to old houses,
they being located in the stiles of the window casement at proper intervals for a looking ongagement with the slide bolts of the sash sup- The herein described sash holder and fastener consisting in the longitudinally divided tubular case having a series of apertures 16 in its two sections, a partition 16 having'a central aperture and end tongues '16" passed through any aligned pair of saidapertures and bent over at right angles to hold the sections together, a. spring projected bolt guided in and having its tension adjusted by said partition and having a rounded nose, a cam to engage the real" end of the bolt and lock it projected,said earn havingtrunnions mounted in apertures in the said sections, and a series of rounding sockets for the nose of the bolt to enter and act as a friction holder or a positive fastener, substantially as described.
