No.181,`348. Patented Aug.z2,17e.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICJE.
SAMUEL JAMES, 0F PHTLADELPHIA,PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN DRAWING-BOARDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 181,348, dated August 22, 1876; application filed April 15, 1876.
To all whom it may concern.'-
Be it known that I, SAMUEL JAMES, of the I city ot' Philadelphia, in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Adjustable Stand for Drawing and Sketch Boards, of which the following is a specification: f 1
'lhe object of my invention is to enable artists or those who make use of the drawing. or sketch board to work with more convenience on a table or board, which can easily be adjusted to hold the design and the paper on which it is to be copied in such positions and angles as may be best suited to their purpose.
'I hese objects I attain by the stand illustrated by Figs. l and 2 of the accompanying drawing.
To a triangular base, A, which in the present instance consists of an ornamental casting, is secured a stem, B, having upon its upper end the cross-piece C. The cross-piece C has bearings D D at each end, upon which turn the parallel bars E E. Upon the lower end vof bars E E are lugs F F, into which fit the bearings of the triangular-shaped rest G. The lower end of rest G is supplied with a fork, H, which clasps the stem B and rests upon the pins I I, which are so placed in the stem B as to allow of the board J, which is fastened to the bars E E, being placed at different angles to suit the wish of the artist. Upon the upper end of the board J is hinged the easel or frame K for holding the design.
The easel K, is supported at any angle by the slide L. The slide L is slotted and fastened to the easel K by nut M, which, by tightening, will hold the slide in any position. The lower end of the slide L rests upon the stop N, fastened to the under side of the board J. By placing the easel K at any angle and tightening the nut M it will be held securely in that position.
It will be evident without further description that the above-described apparatus-af- -fords a convenientand adjustable stand for the purpose for which it was designed.
I claim as my invention- 1. The drawing-table stand having base A, stem B, and cross-piece O, the two parallel bars E E, and rest Gr,'combined and arranged substantially as described.
2. The combination, with a drawing-table top, having stop N,'of the easel K, provided with adjustable slide L, constructed and arranged as specified.
3. In a drawing-table stand, having the rest G-and fork H, the stem B provided with the pins J J, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
SAML. JAMES.
