Description
June 16, 1931. G. PoNARousE HAIR CURLER Filed sept. 13, 1929 'F191 F192 F195, 1:19
Patentecl June 16, 1931 GEORGE PONAROUSE, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA I ten HAIR CURLER Application filed September 13, 1929. Serial No. 392,339.
rI`his invention relates to improvements in hair cnrlers and has particular reference to the type of hair curler utilized by women to produoe a Vwavy efiect when the curlers are removed and the hair is combed.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a device of the Character described which is simple in construction, compact and one which Will readily form the desired cnrl.
An additional object is to provide a heatmg element in conjunction with the curler whereby the curl can be formed in a minimum amount of time.
A further obJect 1s to provide a curler 15 which is simple, neat in appearance and economical to manufacture.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in'which like numerals are employed to designate 'llke parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the cnrler formed in accordance with my invention,
Figure 2 is an edge elevation of the same,
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the device showing a curler formed thereon,
Figure 5 is a cross-section through the curler disclosing the interior construction thereof, p
Figure 6 is a horizontal section onthe line 6-6 of Figure 3, and
Figure 7 is a perspective view of the heating element inserted in the curler.
In the accompanying drawings wherein` for the pnrpose of illnstration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 8 designates a cylindrical tnbnlar casing that is split at one en'd as shown at 9 to provide two laterally extending ends 10 and 11 which have hingedly secured thereto 5 a Wire loop element 12.
The opposite end ofl the curler is bifurcated as at 13 with slots 14 provided near the bifurcated end for frictionally holding in contact with the curler-S, the wire loop 12. In the bifurcated end of the curler there is secured a end of the cord can be secured to the member 17.
a cord 15, the purpose of which will be later described. 1 v
As disclosed to advantage in Figures '5 and 7, the numeral 16 designates'a heating element that has secured thereto a spring loop 17 that serves as a hand hold When it is desired to manipulate the j curler and functions to receive therein the cord 15 to prevent accidental displacement of the heating 'element fromthecurler. A
It will be noted that an asbestos filler, as shown to advantage in Figure 5, is utilized within the casing 8 so that danger of burning the cord will be eliminated.
In practice the hair adjacent the free ends thereof is placed over the casing 8. The loop element 12 is then moved from'its position shown in Figure 1 to that disclosed in full lines in Figure 2 and the endsv of the hair tightly gripped by the casing and loop. The heating elementV 16 is then inserted in the end 9 and when thus positioned, finger holds 'are provided by the wire loop 17 and' end as indicated by the numeral 20 and discloscdA toadvantage in Figure 4, to be formed on the device. i a
For the purpose of holding the curl in a fixed position for the predetermined length of time, the cord 15 is drawn over the curl and received in the Wire 17.' I
Figure 4 discloses one manner inwhich the It is obvious that anymethod may be employed that will serv'e to prevent displacement of the member 17 fromthe casing 8.
From practise,I have ascertained that with this simple and econoinically constructed device a curling of the `hair can be accomplished in a minimum amount of time.
It Vis to be understoodthatthe form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred'example of the same and that various changes relative to the shape, size, material and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention, or the scope of the subjoined olaims.
Having thus described my invention, I I
claimz- 1. A hair ,curler comprising a tubular casing, split at one end and bifurcated at its opposite end, an elongated frame hingedly 'connected to the split end and receivable over the bifurcated end of said casing for initially lockingthe strands of hair to said casing, and a curl holding cord fixedly secured to the bifurcatedend of said curl and vdetachably secured to the opposite end thereof.
2. A hair cnrler comprising a tubnlar p member, an elongated Wire frame connected to one end of said member and. adapted to be received over the opposite end of said member, a curl retaining element carried by vsaid tnbular member and a heating element positioned 1n sald member, and includlng a.
Wire loop that co-op'erates With the free end of the Wire frame to provide a finger hold in the forming of the curl.
3. A hair cnrler comprising a tnbular member, an elongatedV Wire frame hingedly connected to Vone end of said member and iadapted to be received over the opposite end of said member, means carried by said meinber for fixedly holding' a portion of the elongated frame thereon, a heating'element positioned in said member and including a Wire loop, a curl retaining element carried by said member and comprising a cord position'ed in one end of'said tubular member, and detachably secured to the Wire loop of said heating element;
. 4:. A hair curler comprising a tubnlar'casing, split at one end and bifurcatedfat its op- V posite end, an 'elongated frame hingedly connected to the split end and receivable over the bifurcated end of said casing for initially looking the strands of hair to said casing, and a cnrl holding cord fixedly .secured to the bifurcated end of said cnrl and detachably secured to the opposite end thereof, and a heating element positioned in said member, said heating element including a Wire loop that co-operates With the free end of the Wire frame to provide a finger hold in the forming of the curl on said casing.
5. -A hair curler comprising a casing split at one extremity to provide laterally extending ends, an elongated loop Vframe hingedly connected to laterally extending ends ;and receivable over the 'opposite end of the casing for initially looking the. strand of hair to said casing, and a curl holding cord fiXedly secured in lone end of said casing and detachably secured to the opposite end thereof. a
In testimony Whereof I aflix my signature.
GEORGE PONAROUSE.
