IMPROVEMENT IN CATCHES FOR COVERS TO SPEAKING-TUBES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. I 80, 055. dated July 18, 1876; application filed July 1,1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM R. OSTRAND 11B, of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Catches for Covers ofbpeaking lubes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, makinga part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a representation edge of the front of said mouth-piece is hinged a cover, (3, provided with a whistle, D. On top of mouth-pieceBis constructed an indicator, E, consisting of an exittube and hinged 'tlap. in the ordinary manner. On the lower part of cover 0 is a catch, F, eceentrica-lly pivoted thereto, and provided with a bent lip,f, and a heavier handle,f. The rim of cover 0 is slightly recessed under this catch, so as to let lipfdrop through it when the cover falls, and seize upon or lock undera flange, b, of mouthpiece B. When the cover is raised, or partly raised, catch F falls back thereon.
My device locks automatically, but is easily unfastened. It is extremely simple, and is not liable to become unfit for operation by long use, as are devices which depend for their efficienoy upon spring-pressureandsimilarmeans.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In combination with cover 0 and mouthpiece I), the pivoted catch F, having bent lip fand handle f, substantially as set forth.
