- in part be pointed out in detail hereinafter and will in part be obvious to those skilled in the art to which. the present invention relates. 1
In the accompanying specification Ishall 15 describe and in the annexed drawing'show an illustrativeembodiment of the present invention. Itflis, however, to'be clearly un derstood that my invention is not limited to the specific embodiments thereof herein {20 shown and described for purposes of illustration only.
Referring to the drawing, wherein I have illustrated the aforesaid illustrative embodiment of the present invention:
Fig. 1 is a side view of the lipstick comprising said embodiment, the same being shown in closed position;
Fig.2 is a side view showing the lip-stick within theinner casing;'
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2 showing the lip-stick filler andholder extended in position for use; j V Y I Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view of said embodiment; p
Fig. 5 is a cross sectional view taken along line 55 of Fig. 3 of the drawing;
Fig. 6 is a cross sectional view taken along line 66 of Fig. 1 of'the drawing; 7
Fig. 7 is a cross sectional view taken along line 7-7 of Fig. 1 of the drawing; r Fig. 8 is a cross sectional view takeir'along line 8-8 of Fig. 1 of the drawing; and
Fig. 9 is a cross sectional view taken-along line 99 of Fig. 1 of the drawing.
Referring now to the aforesaid illustrative embodiment of the presentinvention, and more particularly to' the draWingillustrating the same, lOindicates the lipstick as a whole comprising theouter, casing member open, with the lip-stick filler and holder" 'from the foregoing description but may be briefly summarized as follows:
V 11 and the inner casing member 12. The two casing members 11 and 12, are pivotally and slidably associated" with each other by means of the pin 13 which is fastened in the out-er casing member 11 and which passes into the opposed cooperating slots 14 with which-the inner casing member. 12 is provided. It may here be stated that the slot 14; have the transverse portions or bayonet slot portlons 15 for a purpose which will be described in greater detail hereinafter.
' The outer casing member 11 has a U-shaped crosssection and a circular open end 16. The inner casing member 12, which is of substantially oval or elliptical longitudinal section, is
open at the end 12 and closed at the end 12". Within the inner casing 12 is the lip-stick holder 17 in which is contained the lip-stick filler 18. The filler 18 is of a size to fit snugly into the holder 17 while the holder 17 is of a size to permit'of a frictional sliding movement in its inner casing 12 in the manner which will hereafter be'described.
This completes the description of the aforesaid illustrative embodiment of the present invention. The construction of such embodiment will, it is believed, be clear from the foregoing description. Likewise the manner ofassembling such embodiment will be clear Before the pin 13 is headed over on each end, the inner casing 12' is slipped into the outer casing 11. Thereafter the pin 13 is passed through a portion of the slots 14 and 15 through the necessary apertures provided 'in the outer casing 11, after which the ends closed. The pin 13 is eccentrically positioned between the longitudinal center line of the outer casing member 11 and its lower closed'edge face. The longitudinal slots 14 have a similar eccentricity relative to the longi'tudinal center line of the member 12. The pivot ends of the "slots 14: terminate in a semicircle, the closed end of the semi-circle being positioned on the opposite side of the longitudinal center line of the casing member 12. The semi-circular termini form the bayonet mounting 15. The bayonet mounting 15 and the semi-circular end 12" of the member 12 have a common center, thereby making the slot 14? and its bayonet mounting 15 parallel with the adjacent side and end walls of the members 12 and enabling the member 12 to be pivoted about the pin13,although'the pin is eccentric'ally mounted. The construction and arrangement of the pin 13, the slot 1 1, the bayonet mounting 15 and the end portion 12 permit the sliding and pivotal movement of the member 12 relative to the member 11 and with the two members 11 and 12 form a close, neat lit for all positions of the members.
In use the inner casing 12 is pivoted about the pin 13 so as to be brought into open position. In this movement the inner casing 12 is manipulated so as to bring the pin 13 out of the bayonet slot portions 15, in which position the inner casing will be locked and the lip-stick holder and contained lip-stick filler 18 will likewise be locked against movement. By now bringin pressure to bear against the pin 13 which Will now bein the slot portions 14, the lip-stick holder 17 and filler 18 may be forced towards the member 12 of the casing 12 to expose the end of thefiller for theme of the lip-stick.
When it is desired to close the device, the lip-stick holder 17 and the-contained lip-stick filler 18 are pushed back into the inner casing 12 and by a reverse movement, the inner casing 12 is folded into the'outer casing 11, the pin 13 now entering the bayonet slot portion 15 with the device thus locked in closed position.
This completes the description of the manner of operating and using the device of the present invention. It will be noted that the device is very simple in construct-ion and may be readily and economically fabricated and assembled. Itis also very compact and permits the ready and convenient manipulation of the lip-stick holder and contained lip-stick filler for use in open position and out of use in closed position.
Other superiorities and advantages of the articles of the present invention will readily occur to those skilled in the art'to' which the present invention relates.
