STEEL woorJ HOLDER Filed Dec. 17, 19'29 "Patented Dec. 16, 1930 n SAUL scriULHorr, or BnLriMonn, MARYLAD STEEL-woor HOLDER Application filed December 17, l1929.l SeralNo. 414,800.
The present inventionv relates to holders and more particularly to holders adapted to securely hold a pad of steel wool or the like. An object of this invention is'to provide a holder for securely engaging a pad of steel wool so as to permit the use of steel wool without engaging the hand or fingers on the wool. 1 Y
Another object of this invention is to provide a substantially flexible and resilient holder for holding a pad of steel wool.
A further objectof thisinvention is to provide a holder of this character which is 'flexible and may be secured to apad of steel 15 wool without the use of tools or the like,
' y and which may be used repeatedly for holding pads of steel wool.
The above and various other objects andk advantages ofthis invention will in part be describen in and in part be understood from the following detailed description of the present preferred embodiment, the same being illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein: Y Figure 1 is a bottoni plan view of a device constructed according to the present invention 5 y Figure 2 is a transverse section taken on Vthe lines 2-2 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a llongitudinal section taken on the lines 3-3 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawing wherein like numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the drawing, the numeral 10 designates the body portion of the holder, Y which in the present instance, ispreferably constructed of flexible or resilient material, such as rubber or the like, which will not Abe materially affected by contact with water or other moisture. 1 g The body 10 may be of. any desired thickness and is preferably rectangular in cross section and is preferably provided with rounded or cutoff corners k11. The body 10 f is provided with an elongated concave groove 12 which` extends substantially thelength ofv i the body.
The upper edge portions of the concave opening 12 preferably converge toward the upper surface of the body 10, and a substantially keysliaped opening is provided at 13,
the outer edge portio considerably reduced n of the opening being from the inner portion thereof, so as to provide ayypair of clam ing edges for holding the steel'wool ork tie like, therebetween.
a The studs 15 may stantially horizontal molded or otherwise dependent of each ot be mounted on a subbar 18 which may be secured in the body 10, or if desired the studs 15 may be mounted inher, so as not to interfere with the flexing of the body portion,
while in operation.
The studs 15 are preferably mounted in the body portion spaced inwardly from the outer ends of the groove and in spaced relation to y'each other. The head s 16 of the studs are substantially larger than the distance between the `inwardly extending edges 14 of the groove, so that the edges 14 substantially overlie the vpointed ends of the studs.
Y .In 'use the body 1() may be flexed so as to enlarge the groove and to project the heads of the studs outwardly of the groove. The
body may then bepre ssed upon a pad of steel wool and permitted to assume its normal position, whereupon the 'gripping edges 14 will force the steel wool inwardly of the opening so as to 4be engaged of the studs;
upon the pointed ends y Th'epad of steel wool will then be securely mounted on the hold scouring or cleaning.
er andl can be used for The heads of the studs 15 being positioned substantially below the outer surface ofthe body 10 will permit the use of the steel wool until it has been practically worn out, witho ofthe studs. y K;-
llt SCrfGhing the heads In order to permit the convenient use of y y this device the body portion l0 may be provided with an elongated upstanding handle member 19. The opposite side portions of the V body l0 may Valso be provided with outstand-V ing flanges 2O which facilitate the flexing of Y the body 10 sofasto. permit" oftlie ready ini' f 'holder adapted' for g Y steel wool or the like, comprising a leXible body portion, Asa'ide'body portion having a sertion ofthe steel wool inthe groove" 14';
It is, of course, understood thatA variousV changes and modificationsmay `be madein c,
the details of construction and design ofthe 3 above specically described embodiment-.ot I
the invention without departing from the spirit thereof, such changes andfmodications .i
being restricted only by the.V scope of the followingclaims; 'v Y. What is claimed is :-V
holding a pad' of groove therein, and a plurality ofl elliptical headed stud members spacedly positioned in said groove for holding the steelI wool on thebody, said headedinembers lying normal- Y. n 'K ly below the"surfaceofsaidbody memberand extending transversely oi" said groove. Y
` 2. A holderof the character described com prisingy a ieX'ible body' Iniemberhavinga groove therein', :said groove beingprovided with a concave inner portion, Vand a plurality offstnds mountedin said body and` positionedv within said; groove, whereby to engage la; pad
V.- of steel wool, said studs having elliptical headed portions positioned transversely' of said groove.
f A3. A holder of the character'des'cribed comprising a. resilient elongatedk body member havinga longitudinally arranged groove therein, and a plnrality'ofholding members mounted insaidgroove, sai'djholding mem'- bers comprising a stud positioned in thebody and eXten'dinO outwardly into said groove, and an ellipticalhead portion or'said stud, said head portionV being positioned inwardly A of the' outer face ofV theV body.
' l.v A holder of the character described, comf prising a flexible body member, said body groove, said studs havingenlarged pointy ed'beadiportions, saidipointedfheadportions l Cil having a. groove therethrough, the inner portion offsai'd' groovelbeingconcave, and a plurality of' studs spacedly positioned within being inclined inwardly, whereby to` engage thesteel wool for'holdingthe'wool within the groove. p f
y5. A holder of the character describedlcom'- prising a i'leX-ible body member' having a groove therein', the opposite side portions of ,Said groove being inclined to provide undercut innerside portions of said groove,.and,a f plurality of. steel' wool yengaging members mounted on said body in. said groove.
