Be it known that I, HENRY l). Nn'rnniran, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful improvements in Combination Rules and Blotter-Holders, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a combination rule and blotter holder and is especially adapted for use by boolrlreepers and business men.

The object of my invention is to provide a ruler having means for detachably securing a. blotter thereto, which may be conven- 'iently used for drawing a line, the blotter serving to prevent the ruler from slipping out of adjusted positions, as well as raising the ruler from the surface of the paper, in order that lines may be drawn with accuracy, and all danger of the blurring of the lines will be obviated.

A further object of my invention is to provide means whereby the blotter may be expeditiously and firmly attached to the ruler and readily replaced when worn out.

Other objects of my invention will appear in the following description, will be pointed out in the claims and will be embodied in the accompanying drawings, in which:

ln carrying out my invention, 10 is a ruler preferably formed of a strip of spring metal, which is provided on its upper surface adjacent one of its edges with the usual measuring scale 11. The metal strip 10 is provided at its opposite ends with the inwardly projecting spring prongs 12 and 13, which are formed by making saw cuts la and 15 in the metal,` as clearly shown in Fig. 1 of 'the drawings.

ln order that the ruler and blotter may be conveniently lifted from the paper or shifted thereon, I provide an upwardly extending lip 16 in the central portion of the strip 10, which may be conveniently gasped between the lingers for this purpose. The lip 16 is formed by punching a semi-circular cut in the metal strip 10 and bending the lip 16 upwardly at right angles with the body of the strip.

VBy the above recited construction it will be seen that by bending the spring prongs 12 and 13 downwardly the blotter 18 may be inserted between said prongs and the body of the metal strip 10 and held rinly in adjusted position with reference to the ruler. 1n order that the extreme ends of the ruler may be prevented from rocking, due to the thickness of the blotter, l provide the downwardly projecting knobs 19 and 20 in the metal strip, which are formed by making indents in the metal strip 10.

It will be seen by the above recited construction, that the blotter will rest upon the paper, bool; or other work, and will serve to raise the rulino` edge of the metal strip away from the work, thus preventing` the blurring of a line when drawn; and will also prevent the shifting of the ruler while the line is being drawn, the frictional contact of the blotting paper with the work being sui'licient for this purpose.

1. 15in article of manufacture comprising a ruler composed of a strip of spring metal having formed integral therewith a pair of oppositely disposed prongs projecting inwardly from each end of said metal strip.

2. An article of manufacture comprising a ruler composed of a strip of spring metal provided with oppositely disposed spring prongs projecting inwardly from each end of said ruler, and an upwardly projecting finger lift arranged between said prongs.

8. An article of manufacture comprising a ruler provided with oppositely disposed spring tongues projecting inwardly and toward each other from each end of the ruler for detachably securing a blotter thereto, and a stamped boss formed at each end of said ruler for holding the ruling edge ofk said ruler out of contact with the work.
