R. E. DULIN COT'TER PIN yTOOL Filed April 26, 1924 INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented July 28, 1925.
PATENT OFFICE.
ROBERT E. DU'IN, 0F BOWLING GREEN, SOUTH CAROLINA.
cormrm TOOL.
appunti@ mea 11p-r11 2e, 1924. serial No. 709,290.
T o all 'whom 'it may concern.'
Be it known that I, ROBERT E. DULIN, a citizen Of the United States, residing at Bowling Green, in the countyof- York and 5 State of South flarolina, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cotter-Pin Tools, Of which the following is a specification. l
This invention relates totools and has for 10 its Object the provision of a novel device de- 20 vantages in view the invention consists in the details of construction to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which: i
Figure-1 is a perspective view of the device engaged upon an Operators hand,
Figure 2 isa longitudinal section. l Referring. more particularly to the drawings Ihave shown the tool as comprising an 30 elongated body 10 constructed of metal and having one end 11 solid and its other end formed with a socket 12 lined with leather 13 or Other'suitable material so that the device will not chafe Or injure the finger of the 35 Operator when in use.
The solid end-11 is gradually reduced in thickness and. terminates in a somewhat vhook shaped extenslonl 14 which 1s curved and which has a chisel edge 15. It is preferable to provide straps 16 which are` riveted 40 Or otherwise secured to the body and lwhich are adapted for engagement upon the hand of the user so that the device will not slip Off the finger.
In the Operation it will be'seen that after 45 y' a cotter 1n has been inserted in the usual manner,t echisel point or edge 15 is inserted between the points of the cotter pin and the device is rocked to force the Oints apart and clinch them against the sur ace Of whatever element through which they roject. The device is bound to be more rapid) in use than more complicated tools and its simplicity and cheapness -should recommend ity tO those having occasion lto employ its services.
While I have shownV and described the preferred embodiment of my invention it is of course to be understood that I reserve the right to make such changes inthe form, construction and arrangement of arts as will not depart from the spirit of t e invention Or the scope of the subjoined claim. I claim:
A cotter pin spreader of the character described, comprislng an elongated body ter.- minatin at one end in a reduced curved extension aving a chisel edge, the other end of the' body being 'formed with a socket, a lining Of resilient material located within said socket, the socket being adapted to receive the finger of an operator and means for securing the device upon the hand.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
ROBERT E. DULIN.
