Description
7 J. BALOYAN Nov. 2 1926.
THUMB TACK Filed Aug 6, 1925 Patented Nov. 2, 192 6.
UNITED STATES JOHN BAIQOYAN, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
'rnumn' TACK.
Application filed August This invention relates to improvements in thumb tacks, one of the objects of the invention being to provide a pad or washer for the tack for increasing its gripping action on the sheet or other object being held thereby. Another object of the invention is to provide a hand engaging part on the washer which facilitates handling of the tack and its removal from the board or other support into which it is pressed;
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement'of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, i1- lustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanyin drawings wherein like characters ,denot like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a fragmentary view of a board showing the invention in use.
Figure 2 is an enlarged the attachment thereon.
Figure 3 is a View of the attachment itself.
Figure 4 is a section on line 4-4 of Figure 2.
'Figure5 is a section on line 5--5 of Fig ure2 .-v
Figure 6 'is a sectional view showing a modification.
As shown in these views, I provide a washer or pad 1 forengaging the under face of the head of. a thumb tack; such as shown at 2, so-that this pad will frictionally engage the sheet or other object being. held by the tack and will thus prevent, movement of the object on the board, or other support. The pad is provided with a restricted roundview of a tack with ed extension 3 which forms a. handle and enables the tack tO1b8 easily. pulled from the board or other support. The ad or washer "can be used on the various kin s of tacks-now on the market and it can be formed of different materials, though I prefer to form it of rubber or a composition of "rubb er which ma be provided with a. cloth facing. a
/ igures l-to 5 show the invention in use e, 1925. Serial No. 48,662.
with a tack, the point f which is cut from the head 7 thereof, the point being of arrow. shape, which are spaced from the head of-the tack. The pad or washer isperforated, as at 9, to
receive the point and after being stretched over the large part thereof, the portions of the pad will contract and engage the reduced part of the point between the shoulders 8 and the head so place by said shoulders.
In the modification shown in Figure 6, the point of is suitably fastened to the head 7 of the tack and this point forms an annular shoulder 8' which holds the pad in'place. -Thus in the held in place by the shoulders formed on the pointed part of the tack, but as before stated, the pad. can be held in place in any 3 suitable manner, or it can be simply placed on the pointed part of a tack and held there on by friction.
As will be seen,
* increases the g'rippin effect of a tack on an object, but also facilitates handling of the tack and enables it to be pulled from the board by a pull on the handle 3, thus obviating the use of the finger nails ora tool in removingthe tack.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel 'of my invention will be readily apparent.
that the pad will be held in features so that it forms the shoulders 8 .1
two forms shown, the pad is his invention not only.
' I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the constru'ctionand in the combination and arrangement of 'theis'everal parts, in the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is 1 A thumb tack having a head and a pomt projecting therefrom,a pad engagmg the under face of the head, the pointed part of said tack adjacent its juncture with the head thereof being reduced to provide shoulders underlying the head for holdlng the pad provided that such changes fall wi th I associated with said tack against he ad, and a restricted 'ex-peripheral yiportion formed on said pad vproviding a? handle .fl/ In testimony whereof I my signa- .tum. p
