IMPROVEMENT IN END-FASTENINGS FOR SUSPENDERS.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN H. MURFEY, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Suspender-End Fastener, of which the following is a specification My invention consists of a clip of sheet metal, contrived in a simple way, for fastening one or two strips of woven material, or leather, or other substance, called ends, to the buckle, hook, loop, or other device, for

connecting the end to the principal strap, the

said contrivance being such that the clip can be made bystamping or punching it out at one blow of a press, and can be fastened on the strap without sewing, riveting, or other means required to puncture or slit the end.

Figure 1 is a plan of a blank clip ready to fasten to the strap, and in the form in which it is cut out of the sheet. Fig. 2 is a plan of the same and the strap or end to be fastened, showing the first process. Fig. 3 is a plan showing the second process. Fig. 4 is a plan showingthe completed fastening. Fig. 5 is a plan showing a modified form of clip adapted for fastening two straps or ends; and Fig. 6 is a perspective view, showing a modified contrivance of the clip, adapting it for detachably connecting to the ring or loop.

The blank for the clip is an inverted T- shapcd piece, whereof the two narrow slips a are to be bent over the strap or end b a little below its end 0, as shown in Fig. 2, as the first step in attaching the clip. The tongue 11 is to pass through the ring, loop, or buckle e, and bend over, either under or outside of the end 0 and slip a, the end 0 being also bent down over slips a, and the parts f are to bend over on the tongue and end 0, and bind them operation of the fastening substantially as specified.

If two ends are to be connected either at the front or back of the suspenders, the middle part 9 of the clip is widened a little, and the clamping parts a and f are inclined, if attached diagonally, as in Fig. 5, so as to fold evenly along the diagonal outer edge of the straps b. In other respects the clips will be all the same, and may be finished either as represented in Figs. 4 and 6. Besides being so simple to make and easy to apply, the contrivance of the clip so as to make a substantial fastening without punching, cutting, or slitting the web, is of considerable importance. The clip is specially designed for fastening these suspenders ends; but it is evident that it may be used for other straps of any kind.

Having thus described my invention, what I'claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. The improved clip for fastening suspend er-ends, consisting of a metal plate, g, with wide lateral parts f and narrow lateral parts a, combined with a tongue, d, substantially as specified.

2. The combination of the clip a d g f, and the ring, buckle, or other device c, with the end or strap 1), whether the'tongue d be permanently fastened to said ring or other device, or arranged to hook on it detachably,
