My invention relates to traffic gates used on farms and estates where vehicle gates are required. It more particularly pertains to double acting gates through which automobiles and other motor driven vehicles are driven. The objects of my invention are, first, to provide a gate that can be opened from either side by the contact and push of an automobile while the driver remains seated within the car; and second, toprovide a gate that, when a vehicle has passed through, will automatically close of itself by gravity, and thus save the time and the effort of getting out of the car to open and close the gate.

Heretofore, various devices have been in- 0 vented for opening and closing driveway gates by means of cords, chains, pulleys, springs, weights and other mechanisms, all of which are more or less cumbersome and awkward, unsightly and expensive. Some '7 are quite difiicult to install and operate.
My new improvements require some simple additions to those used in the making and hanging of an ordinary driveway gate. Each latch lifting wireis tobe attaQhQd-Withequal 10 tautness to its respective bumper board, so that when the latch 8 is down in the catch 9, the bumper boards will extend equally distant from the sides of the gate as shown in Figs. 2 and 9.
There is no uncommon method required in constructing a gate and attaching my improvements thereto. All can be done in a simple and practical manner as indicated by the drawing and as herein described.
To open the gate we willconsider an automobile is approaching from the farther side of Fig. 1. The driver slows down as he comes to the gate so that the car wheel or bumper will contact the board 12 with a mild bump pushing it toward the body of the gate; The opposite' board 12 will be pushedfr'o'mthe gate as indicated in Fig. 2, whereby its latch lifting wire 11 will be given a quick jerk that will lift the latch 8 from the catch 9 and the 'thus letting the gate swing or rock back and forthon the double bearings H of the lower hinge '3 till the latch finally catches in the notch. It will be observed this automatic action of the gate is caused by gravity. It will be seen that my improvements in gates as shown and herein described, are simple, practical and economical in construction and will be useful in gateways on farms,
