i UNITED STATES PATENT QFETGE.-
` DARIUS WILCOX, OF BIRMINGHAM, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS .RIGHT TO ISAAC P. HOWE, OF SAME PLACE. I
IMPROVEMENT IN STAY-END CLIPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 174,046, dated February 22, 1876; application iiled January 21,1876. I
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, DAEIUs WILooX, of Birmingham, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented -a certain. new and useful Improvement in Clipping Stay-Ends to the Reach of Carriagesof which the following is a specification:
My invention consists in a device for clipping the'stayfends or any part of. the stays of y the running-gear of a carriage to any suitable part of the reach, without perforating the latter. The said device-consists of a clip passing through perforationsin the stay-cnds or braces, and through a cruciform strengthening-plate, serving to clamp the whole together in the manner hereinafter described.`
In the accompanying drawing, Figure] is a plan view of a portion of a carriage-reach with the stay-ends clipped thereto. Fig. 2 is a transverse section on the line 2 2, Fig. 1. Fig. 3, is a perspective View of my improved clip. Fig. 4 is a perspective View of the strengthening-plate.
.Arepresents'a portion of the reach of a carriage, B B portions ofthe stays, and C C the stay-ends which are to be secured to the reach'. For this purpose I employ a clip consisting of a flattened head, D, and two legs, E E, which legs pass through the stay-ends C C, as illustrated in Fig. 2, the stay-ends being perforated to receive the legs, as illustratedin Fig. 2, andthe legs being threaded at their lower ends to receive nutsF F; G represents a cruciform strengthening-plate, equal, or nearly so, in width to the reach A,and provided with perforations g in its lateral projections without any perforations or weakening of the reach. On the contrary, it adds strength to the latter. l
Having thus described my invention, what Iclailn as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of'the clip D Ev E., the stayends or braces B C, having holes for the recep tion of the clip-legs, the reach A, and the strengthening clam p plate G, all substantially as described.
DARIUS WILCOX. Witnesses:
