NECK-YOKE.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE MEYERS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cameron, in the county of Cameron and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Neck-Yokes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which- Figure l is a perspective view of my improved neck-yoke, showing the ends drawn out; and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same.

Similar letters of reference indicate correspondiug parts in all the figures.

My invention has relation to neck-yokes; and it consists in the improved construction and combination of parts of a neck-yoke having extensions at its ends, which-may he slid in or out, so as to make the neck-yoke of any desired length, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, the letter A indicates the main portion of the neck-yoke,

which is provided at its middle with a ring,

B, for attaching it to the end of the tongue, and which is tubular with the exception of the central solid portion, 0. The ends of the tubular portions of the yoke are formed with per forations D, through which rods E E slide, which rods are providedwith heads Fat their inner ends, which heads lit and slide in the tubular portions of the yoke, and with heads G at their outer ends, which heads are provided with ringsHand bails I, for the attachment of the yoke-straps of the harness. The rods are provided with screw-threaded perforations J, which may register with perforations K in the tubular ends of the yoke, and screws L may fit into the threaded perforations, passing through the perforations in the yoke. It will be seen that the rods may be drawn out through the ends of the yoke, and that they may be adjusted at different stages of extension by means of the screws, so that the yoke may be made of any suitable length, ac-

cording to the size of the horses and the size of the vehicle.

The yoke may be provided with any suitable means for attaching it to the tongue and for attaching it to the harness, and may be ornamented in any suitable manner, and the body portion of the yoke as well as the extensions may be of any desired dimensions.

The yoke having the extensions will admit of the same yoke being used with large and with small horses having either wide or narrow breasts, as the extensions may be drawn out or pushed in, so as to admit of the rings and bails, to which the yoke-straps are attached, to be at the middle of the breast of each horse, preventing any wrenching or turn- 4 ing of the harness to one side or the other, as

will happen where the yoke is either too short or too long for the width of breast of the horses.

The yoke is preferably made of metal, and although I prefer to use the manner of adjusting the sliding rods, as shown and described, the screws may either only pass through a perforation in the yoke and bear against the sides of the rods, or the rods may be provided with suitable notches,wl1ich may be engaged by catches; or other fastening means may be employed.

Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- Thecombination of a neck yoke having tubular end portions and a solid central portion, and having perforated plates covering the open ends, rods having heads at the inner ends within the tubular portions of the yoke, and having-heads at their outer ends provided with rings and bails, and screws passing through perforations near the ends of the tubular portions of the yoke and into screw-threaded perforations in the rods, as and for the purpose shown and set forth.
