This invention relates to folding camp beds and aims to provide a bed which will be exceptionally strong and durable when in its extended position, and one which may be folded into a small and compact article to facilitate the storing and transportation thereof.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a bed of this character wherein the length of fabric material forming the hot tom of the bed may be used as a covering for the bed structure when the bed is folded.

lVith the foregoing and other objects in View which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, Without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Referring to the drawings:

Figure 1 is a plan view of the bottom of the folding camp bed forming the essence of the invention.

Referring to the drawings in detail, the bed frame embodies side rails 5 and end rails 6, the end rails being removably connected with the side rails, in a manner to be hereinafter more fully described.

Each of the side rails includes separable sections 6 and 7 respectively, one of the sections of each side rail being supplied with an elongated socket member 8 cut away at coop r side crating therewith may be. readily slid :into position within the socket member. A sleeve indicated at '10 operates longitudie nally of one section of each side rail and is adapted to be slid overthe extended end of each socket member, when the sections of the side rail are'brought'together to hold the sections against movement with respect to each other. i V

At the outer end of each sections is secured a strap '11 which has "its outer extremity 12 spaced from the end of the section providing an opening to receive the reduced end portion of the end rails 6 so that theend rails may e onn ct d o th e de e e Flexible securing members 13 connect the sections of theside rails with the end rails so that they will not become disconnected from each-other.

" At the outer sides of each :leg member is a bracing member as shown by "F igure 2 of the'drawings, which brace includes an arm 24 pivotally connected to one of theiside rails of the bed frame, the arm having a head 25 formed with ano'pening ,to be positioned over the staple or keeper 26. S'lidably mounted on the arm 2% is a locking arm 27 formed with an elongated opening 28 that receives the headed pin 29 to permit of such sliding movement.

The outer extremity of the arm 27 is formed into a finger 30 to be positioned within the staple or keeper in a manner as shown byFigure 2. i

The end rail 6 at one end of the bed frame or head thereof, is connected with the bar 31 by means of the metallic members 32 and held in spaced relation therewith, the space between the end rail and member 31 being designed to accommodate the bar 33 to which the bed bottom 34 is secured, there being provided a pivoted locking member 35, secured to the bar 31 to be swung over the bar 33 to hold the bar in its position between the end rail and bar 31. 1

Thus it will be seen that due to this construction, the bar 33 may be given a quarter or half turn to take up slack in the bed bottom 34, should the same become stretched from use.

The reference character 36 indicates a head member which is pivotally connected to the bar 31 so that it may be swung to a vertical position as shown by Figure 5 of the drawings.

The opposite end of the flexible member or bottom 34 is secured to the end rails 6 at the opposite end of the bed frame and is held to the end rail by means of the transverse bar 37 that rests on the end rail in a manner as shown by Figure 5.

Thus it will be seen that due to this construction, the bed bottom is permanently secured to one of the end rails, while the opposite end of the bed bottom is removably supported, to the end that when the side rails and end rails have been disconnected and folded, the bed bottom may be wrapped therearound to hold the variouselements of the bed in a small and compact package.

I claim: 7

In a folding bed, a frame, spaced bars at one end of the frame and disposed trans- Versely of the frame, said bars having square surfaces, a flexible bed bottom, bars having square surfaces secured to the flexible bottom at the ends thereof, means for removably securing one of the bars at one end of the frame, the bar at the opposite end of the bed bottom having square surfaces adapted to lie between the spaced bars of the frame, the square surface of the last mentioned bar resting against the square surfaceof one of the spaced bars to hold the bars against movement, and a latch member for engaging the upper surface of the last mentioned bar for holding it in position between the spaced bars.
