Be it known that I, DAVID J. POWERS, a citizen of the 'l'nited States, residing at Chicago, in the county of (ook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in (rib-Beds, of which the following is l a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in crib-beds; and it consists in several new devices fully set forth, and described in the accom panying drawings and specifieation.

The drawings, Figure 1, Sheet 1, show a ride view of the crib in its normal condition. Fig. 1

My improved childs crib is preferably constructed with a frame having sufficiently high sides, l, A, upon which the folding panels B are hinged to permit the panels to fold down, as shown in Fig. "1-, upon the bedding, which in such case would not have to be removed before folding the panels, while with a frame, as shown by Fig. 5, the bedding has to be removed before folding the panel sides and ends. Near the bottoms of these frames is stretched lengthwise and secured a woven wire or other suitable bed-bottom, C. Fig. 0

When the panels are erect, they are secured at their intersecting corners by the locking-keys I), which are adapted to be turned in the posts E, and secured from witlnlrawing by a pin, C", in the groove C, or by any other suitable means. Key D is fitted with a thumb-piece, (Z, and locking end (1", flattened so as to pass through the elongated mortise in plate G, Fig. 8'. Said plate is secured to the ends of the top rails of the side panels, i as seen in Fig. 7, in such position and relation to the key in the post that the one enters the other when the panels are brought together, and by a tpiarter-turn of the key is securely locked in the mortise, and the panels thus firmly connected and disconnected by the reverse action of the parts.

The legs M are adapted to be folded and unfolded in the usual way, and maybe secured when unfolded by hooks I, or in any other suitable manner. The legs are connected by a cross-girt, .l, at. their upper ends and by a curved girl, Ii, at their lower ends, that is pivotally secured between the legs, as indicated at Ir, and adapted to be turned on its axis upward, so that the legs support the crib, or may be turned down, in which position it sustains the weight and serves as a rocker. The rocluer-girts are of a length equal to the distance between the inner faces of the legs to which they are secured, and, as the legs are pivoted to the rails of the body in such manner as to fold up inside of such rails, it is apparent that the rockers present no obstruction to the folding of the legs within the body of the crib. This fetture is of importance in many waysas, for example, in the packing and shipping of the cribs, in their storage when not in use, and in the convenience of disposing of the crib during the day, for which purpose it is usually provided with casters secured to the under side of the frame to adapt it to be rolled under an ordinary bed, and with which casters the rockers would interfere did. they project beyond the bottom of the rail. Besides, when the rockers are thus pivoted all danger of breaking them by accidental collision avoided, and the bed is rendered more convenient in use as well as improved in appearance.

Having thus described my improvement, what I consider as new,and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is as follows:

1. The combination, with posts E, of the end panels having a hole therethrough, of the locking-keys D, passed through said hole and provided with the groove 0" and the lockinghead (1, the pins 0, engaging the groove in the key, and the panels B, provided with the plates G, with which the head 61 engages, all arranged and operating as shown and described.

2. The combination, wit-h legs H, of the reversible girt-rockers K, pivoted to and between the'legs and of a length less than the distance between the side rails of the crib, a locking-plate secured to the rocker, and a I latch secured to the le and en a in said a a a a plate, whereby to secure the girt-rockers 111 either position, substantially as described.
